Jaws Re-Release: 5 Reasons Why You Should Watch It in IMAX and 3D

Jaws, directed by Steven Spielberg, is coming back to theatres after celebrating its 50th Anniversary. But because it’s available in 3D and IMAX, it’s bigger, sharper, and scarier than before. You haven’t truly seen the shark yet if you’ve only ever seen it on television. The experience of an out-and-alive shark is going to have you on the edge of your seat. From a movie buff who knows the film inside and out, here are five reasons why this re-release is worth the price.

3D Makes The Sharks Feel Real

Ever recall the night swim when the shark first showed up and dragged poor Chrissie under? It’s eerie on TV, but mildly so. However, with 3D experience, that attack will appear to be taking place right before your own eyes. Your stomach will drop when you see the water splashing, her cries, and the invisible force below. Every underwater imagery will transport you to the dwelling darkness of the ocean, creating an experience that is downright chilling.

The Amity Island Gets Bigger & Better

Spielberg consistently produced breathtaking wide shots of Amity Island. However, the small town appears vibrant and expansive on IMAX. When everyone screams and flees the water during the Fourth of July chaos scene, you’ll think you’re actually on the beach with the throng. The wide-angle view of the ocean, the sound of panic, and the small details you’ve never noticed before will all be so noticeable with IMAX.

Quint’s Monologue Hits Harder

Quint’s Indianapolis speech is among the best parts of Jaws, not just the scary shark. Picture Robert Shaw’s grizzled face in close-up on a tall IMAX screen. It’s terrifying to watch his eyes, hear his voice, and feel the tension in the room as he remembers sharks circling the sailors. You won’t only feel as though you’re watching a story in an IMAX. It will seem as though you and he are seated at the same table.

The Shark Attacks Are Built for IMAX and 3D

Near the end, when the shark jumps on the boat, you’ll practically leap out of your seat while your 3D glasses fall off. Fearsomely real are the ocean spray, the snapping teeth, and Bruce’s (the mechanical shark) enormous size. Spielberg consistently created a suspenseful frame for the shark, revealing just enough to frighten you. Every attack is now much more intense than it could ever be when watching in your living room, thanks to the large screen and depth of 3D.

Reliving Classic Hollywood Movies

Back in 1975, Jaws was the kind of classic movie that made people hesitant to return to the water. It was among the first real summer blockbusters as well. There’s more to seeing it in 3D and IMAX than just the shark. It’s about reliving the history of film. This movie was designed to be seen on a large screen with a group of people who will all jump, gasp, and laugh together.

Are We Hitting The Cinema?

If you are a Jaws fan, this is your biggest opportunity to see it on the big screen if you haven’t already. 3D and IMAX do more than just enlarge the shark. They bring Spielberg’s masterwork on building terror, beauty, and excitement to life once more. Nothing compares to Jaws in theatres, so get a ticket, settle in, and watch that fin slicing through the water.
