John Wick 4 Release Date, Scott Adkins, Donnie Yen, and All You Need To Know

Before we talk about John Wick 4, let’s remind you why we all need to wait for this epic action film. In the recent times we have seen that such kind of neo-noir action movies have risen in number and major reason behind that is John Wick franchise. John Wick (2014), even after being a classic assassin story, brought a lot of new things to the table. Its highly slick and stylized action was something viewers had never seen before and the way it built-up its protagonist is still unmatched.  The scene where Viggo Tarasov says, “That f***ing nobody is JOHN WICK” has a fan following of its own. The goosebumps inducing scene worked like a charm, especially if you didn’t see the trailer.

That aside, the close range gun violence it showcased became a USP of John Wick and so did Keanu Reeves’ portrayal of the character. Well, as expected the tremendous success of the film launched a franchise which debuted John Wick: Chapter 2 in 2017, and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum in 2019. Both these films opened to tons of critical acclaim and were praised for being consistent in quality. The franchise never lost its identity but kept on getting better and better, both action and world-building wise. As a result, we are about to get John Wick: Chapter 4 which has been delayed to 2023 as well as John Wick: Chapter 5.

John Wick 4 Cast and Release Date

John Wick 4 is all set to release in the United States on March 24, 2023, and will be distributed by Lionsgate. It was originally set to release on May 21, 2021, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and after that, because of Reeves’ commitments with The Matrix Resurrections. The film’s release date was then delayed to May 27, 2022, and finally delayed again for the aforementioned 2023 release.

Keanu Reeves (John Wick), Laurence Fishburne (The Bowery King), Ian McShane (Winston), Lance Reddick (Charon), and Halle Berry (Sofia) are all set to reprise their roles for the sequels. Japanese-British pop star Rina Sawayama will also be featured in the film as Akira. That aside, IP Man famed Donnie Yen and Scott Adkins are also set to debut in John Wick 4 and both of them are expected to play antagonists. Additionally,  Shamier Anderson, Bill Skarsgård, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Clancy Brown have been casted in undisclosed roles.

With so many additions to the cast, why am I focusing on these two names? Well, that is because they both are excellent martial artists known for performing their own insane stunts. Donnie Yen rose to prominence after the arrival of IP Man (2008) and ever since then he has starred in many Chinese and Hollywood films. Scott Adkins is also known for his martial arts films including Ninja Shadow of A Tear (2013), Undisputed 2,3 & 4, and IP Man 4 (2019). So, being an action franchise, they are both awesome additions to the cast of John Wick 4 and we expect to see them in action in John Wick 5 as well. Them aside, Hiroyuki Sanada is also in the film and he himself is an excellent martial artist who appeared in Avengers: Endgame, The Wolverine, The Last Samurai, Westworld and numerous other films and series.

As for the plot of John Wick 4, it will see Wick rising to prominence once again after a huge betrayal by Winston. As showcased at the end of John Wick 3, he was saved by The Bowery King and they’ll team up together to take on The High Table once and for all. This will lead them to some new faces like Donnie Yen and Scott Adkin’s characters and some old faces like Charon, Sofia, and of course, Winston. But plot is not what we are into John Wick for, are we? All we want to see is some creative action and Wick killing people with stationary. After pen, pencil, and books maybe a bottle of glue could be next?
