Jurassic World: Rebirth is an upcoming American science fiction action film directed by Gareth Edwards and written by David Koepp. A standalone sequel to Jurassic World Dominion (2022), it is the fourth Jurassic World film and the seventh installment overall in the Jurassic Park film series. While the film is still months away from release, recent leaks on Reddit (now deleted) have provided insight into the film’s plot, characters, and new dinosaurs. With merchandise leaks and a potential trailer expected soon, we may find out how accurate these leaks are in the near future. Let us start with the USP of the franchise – Dinosaurs
Jurassic World: Rebirth – Returning, New, and Redesigned Dinosaurs
As per leaks the returning dinosaurs in Jurassic World: Rebirth include Compsognathus, Apatosaurus, Ankylosaurus, Parasaurolophus, and Pteranodon. The redesigned Dinosaurs include:
- Triceratops: Features a blend of Jurassic Park and Jurassic World designs with more pronounced osteoderms.
- T-Rex: A mix between Buck and Rexy’s design, with a stockier face and a brown body with dark stripes.
- Velociraptor: More gray in color with a vibrant, quilled face reminiscent of Jurassic Park III designs.
- Quetzalcoatlus: Retains the previous design but is smaller, featuring a colorful, hornbill-inspired beak.
- Mosasaurus: Slimmer and more torpedo-shaped, with a greener coloration and fewer crocodilian traits.
- Spinosaurus: A mix between Fallen Kingdom’s Baryonyx and the modern scientific rendition of Spinosaurus. It features an M-shaped sail, a paddle-like tail, and a stockier build, with colors resembling Fallen Kingdom’s Allosaurus.
The film will also feature a bunch of new Dinosaurs which as per reported leaks will be:
- Titanosaurus: Resembling a larger Brachiosaurus, it has a smooth dome on its head, small fin spines along its back, and a long, thin tail. It is dark-colored with orange highlights.
- Aquilops: A small, cat-sized ceratopsian with an orangish body, black tail stripes, and quills. It serves as the movie’s “marketing dinosaur.”
- Maiasaura: A more refined and detailed version of its Jurassic World Evolution counterpart.
- D.Rex (Name TBD): A mutant hybrid dinosaur with six limbs (four arms and two legs), created by accident during an attempted cloning process.
- TBD Mutant Dinosaur: A smaller, Xenomorph-inspired failed clone based on a new species, possibly Purrusaurus.
Full Plot Summary, Leaks, and Spoilers
Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, Earth’s ecosystem has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Many that wandered beyond the equator developed a disease that poses a risk of spreading to humans. As a result, the surviving dinosaurs are now confined to isolated, equatorial regions resembling their prehistoric habitats.
Zora Bennett, a covert operative, is assigned a mission alongside paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis and team leader Duncan Kincaid. Their objective is to retrieve genetic samples from the Titanosaurus, Quetzalcoatlus, and Mosasaurus in order to create a vaccine. These three species were chosen due to their resilience, representing land, sea, and air, ensuring a broader scope for the vaccine’s development.
Meanwhile, a civilian family embarks on a boating expedition near a restricted island. Their trip takes a deadly turn when their boat is attacked by a Spinosaurus, leaving them stranded. The leak suggests that a Mosasaurus may have also played a role in their crash. The island they land on was once an InGen testing ground—a secret facility abandoned after catastrophic cloning failures that the company attempted to erase. Left untouched, the island became a dumping ground for misplaced dinosaurs and genetic experiments that have survived in isolation for decades.
Tensions rise within the rescue team as conflicts emerge. Duncan shares a brotherly bond with Zora but distrusts Loomis. Loomis develops romantic feelings for Zora. Martin, another team member, is deemed untrustworthy. A traitor within their crew intends to steal the samples for a rival company. The climax takes place at night as the team fights to escape the island, all while being hunted by the mutant D.Rex. The film’s final showdown features a brutal battle between the Spinosaurus and the D.Rex at the docks, which is described as one of the most intense fights in the Jurassic Park franchise.
The film will star a new ensemble cast led by Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey, with Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, and Ed Skrein. Development of the film was reported in January 2024 and had been underway for some time. Edwards was hired as director a month later, and casting commenced shortly thereafter. Principal photography took place in Thailand, Malta, and the United Kingdom from June to September 2024. It marks the franchise return of Koepp, who previously co-wrote the original Jurassic Park film (1993) and wrote its first sequel The Lost World (1997).
Jurassic World: Rebirth is scheduled to be released in the United States and Canada by Universal Pictures on July 2, 2025.
