Lightyear: How Many Post-Credit Scenes Are There? Explained

As our favourite space ranger’s own movie, Lightyear, finally hit theatres, audiences have been further blessed with post-credit scenes in the film. Chris Evans voices Buzz Lightyear as he embarks on this intergalactic journey and tries to rescue himself and his recruits off a hostile planet. If you are as Buzzed as we are about this Toy Story spin-off, keep reading as we guide you through the end credits and prepare you for an incredible Lightyear experience. Before we blast off, please note that this article contains Lightyear spoilers. But first check out the non-spoiler review roundup of the film.

Lightyear contains three end-credits scenes, unlike some previous Pixar films, which had little jokes throughout the credits or a tiny bit at the very end. After the stylized sequence showcasing the lead actors’ names, the first scene occurs in the mid-credits. For the next scene, viewers have to wait till the end of the rest of the credits, and the final one comes after the Pixar logo plays. The first two scenes are quick gags, whereas the final scene has significant story value — so make sure you remain seated until the very end.

The Lightyear Post-Credits Scenes Explained

The first of these scenes features Commander Burnside (Isiah Whitlock Jr.), the chief of the space rangers, drinking his afternoon tea in his office while the giant forcefield is placed on the planet Tikana Prime in the background. Following this, one of the planet’s giant native bugs is blasted by the forcefield. The scene also contains a tiny reference to another Pixar film, as BURN-E – from WALL-E can be seen on Burnside’s bookshelf.

In the movie, Buzz and his team get ready to go on their mission while the robot ERIC (voiced by MacLane) tries to provide them with the best route to the spaceship. ERIC keeps making blunders and redoing his plan, and while he’s still babbling, others in the crew abandon him and form their own plan. A callback to this earlier scene, the second end-credits sequence shows ERIC eventually completing his plan, only to discover that he has been talking to himself all this while.

The third and last closing scene sees Zurg (voiced by James Brolin) turning back on, implying that the enemy that Buzz appeared to have destroyed is still there, ready to create more problems for Lightyear and his new space rangers. We can assume that this is a hint that we’ll be seeing more of Zurg and Lightyear in the future, although Pixar hasn’t mentioned whether a Lightyear sequel is in the works. As we look forward to this possibility, you can catch Lightyear in theatres now!
