Mario is the mascot of Nintendo that debuted as a character in the game Donkey Kong in July 1981. After that it got his own game under the Nintendo banner. The arcade game Mario Bros. came out in 1983 which had Mario as one of the primary characters in the game. The successor of this game was Super Mario Bros. that came out in 1985. The success of these games lead to the games being converted into a franchise. It is now the central series of the greater franchise. At least one SM game has been released for every major Nintendo video game console. The success and influence of this game has been undeniable on pop culture. The game has been very impressionable on 90s kids. So much so that it became a huge IP, even outside the games.
The movies started to come, the first one being in 1993 – Super Mario Bros. Now films were always a hit or a miss. So, for a while we’ve not been getting any Mario film until it was announced that there is a new movie which would by definition would be reboot is coming out next year. What was surprising is the cast that the film has, especially Chris Pratt playing Mario and Anya Taylor-Joy plays Princess Peach. The film is untitled and a lot of speculation around the title of the film was around but a website recently had revealed the title to be The Super Mario Bros., identical to the 1993 film. Last month we’d gotten an update at New York Comic Con, the film will release its official trailer and as promised Universal has delivered.
The Super Mario Bros. Trailer – Fans are Disappointed By Chris Pratt’s Voice!
The teaser trailer of the film confirms the film’s title as the website had leaked. While most of the film’s plot is under wraps, from the trailer and the notion that the film is going to follow the Nintendo game, the plot of the film will look something like “the titular plumber is tasked with saving Princess Peach from the villainous Bowser.” The animation of the trailer looks apt and the overall fun vibe of the film is given out by the trailer. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic to direct and Minions: The Rise of Gru’s Matthew Fogel to write the script.
However, there was one major backlash regarding the trailer and that is Chris Pratt’s voice as Mario. To be honest I didn’t find any problems with Pratt’s voice but then again I’ve no emotional or nostalgic connection for the game. So, I can very much understand why fans might be unhappy and it is valid that they express their disappointment so that the film’s creators know. Some angry fans taken out their angst on our beloved networking app- Twitter. Let’s see why they’ve a problem with Chris Pratt as Mario.

You can tell Jack Black put a ton of love and heart into his Bowser voice, while Chris Pratt just uh… spoke? Kinda weird but the visuals are absolutely fucking stellar, and I love the general vibe of the whole thing.
I'm excited for this dang Mario movie. pic.twitter.com/fDrrKEZxcs

Chris Pratt as Mario is a prime example of why you should hire voice actors for voice acting roles because what the hell is this pic.twitter.com/rOYmQqSXEv

HAHAHA OKAY SO I WAS VERY WRONG
That was… pretty crazy. Not too surprised they're going with the "Fish out of water" story with Mario. Chris Pratt is… eh. What I expected.
Jack Black as Bowser is good. Still wouldn't have been my first choice, but he's selling it. https://t.co/pQPjnVXoOG

You can’t convince me that Chris Pratt’s Mario doesn’t sound like he’s trying to do a Rocket Raccoon impression pic.twitter.com/Dw5wyv3mFl

What do you think of all this? Do you like Chris Pratt as Mario? Or are you with the above fans? Which side of the spectrum do you fall on? Along with Chris Pratt playing the lead role, the supporting cast of the film includes Seth Rogen, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Fred Armisen and Charles Martinet. Chris Pratt’s SMB. is slated to release in theatres on 7th April 2023.
