MaXXXine

2022 was a great year for films, especially horror films. We found so many new films that explored different aspects of the genre and did it well. One of the surprises from 2022 was “X”, directed by Ti West and starring Mia Goth in the lead role. X was set in the 1970s, where a group of people set out on a farm to shoot an adult film, however, the owners of the farm catch them in the act and hunt them down one by one. The film was an A24 presentation made only on a budget of $2 million. The Ti West directorial turned out to be a massive success with $14.7 million worldwide. The prequel called “Pearl”, came out the same year and in my opinion was an even better film. Made on a tiny budget of $1 million, Pearl grossed over $9.7 million worldwide. Once again, an overwhelming success.

The “X” franchise is a property worth over $24.4 million now. The concluding chapter of this saga is supposed to be “MaXXXine“, set after the bloody events of X. The film is scheduled to release in 2024 but apart from that we have no clue as to what Ti West has in store for us this time. However, due to some early screenings of the sequel we have some new information regarding MaXXXine and it sounds extremely exciting.

MaXXXine Early Screenings Provide More Information!

Thanks to a Burbank screening, we have new details regarding MaXXXine. These first reactions are not reviews rather comments that give us the clearest idea what kind of movie MaXXXine will be. From its announcement, the Ti West directorial is described to be a whodunnit slasher, however, if these new reactions are to be believed then the film will a homage to Dario Argento and the sub-genre of Giallo, likening it to Lucio Fulci’s The New York Ripper. The film will be set five years after the horrifying events of X and will focus on Maxine in LA.

Maxine is working in Hollywood or more specifically in slasher films in the 1980s. In the film, the actor is terrorized by a serial killer called Night Stalker. Unfortunately for Maxine, the killer is fixated on her and starts to take out the people in her life. The film, which wrapped production in May, is noted for its excessive gore and begins with the music of ZZ Top’s “Give Me All Your Lovin’.” Additional details also mention scenes set in the Bates Motel from Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho and a surprise appearance from a mystery actor.

The identity of the actor is kept under wraps but is said to be a major surprise. The first reactions also describes Mia Goth’s role in “MaXXXine” as more subdued but still exceptional. The release date for “MaXXXine” is not yet announced, but it is expected to come out in 2024, with speculation about its premiere at festivals like SXSW or Cannes.

Along with Goth, MaXXXine has a powerpack cast with Elizabeth Debicki (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3), Moses Sumney (The Idol), Michelle Monaghan (Nanny), Bobby Cannavale (The Watcher), Lily Collins (Emily in Paris), Halsey (Americana), Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul), and Kevin Bacon (City on a Hill).

MaXXXine doesn’t have an official release as of now but it is estimated to release in early 2024.
