The Mission Impossible Series is one of the most famous franchises of Hollywood. Tom Cruise is the star of the entire franchise. The first film of the franchise released in 1996- Mission Impossible. That movie was adapted from a TV show of the same title. The show started in 1966 and ran for 7 seasons. After the success of the first film the sequels just kept coming. Some were done well others were cash grab movies that exploited the success and craze of the first film. The first 4 films in the franchise were directed by different directors. However, the fifth film was helmed by Christopher McQuarrie and apparently he did such a good job that the franchise has stuck with him ever since.
He directed the next film in the franchise Mission Impossible: Fallout and now he is going to direct the possibly last two films of the franchise – Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One and Part Two. These two films were supposed to conclude the franchise and give a proper send off to Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt. However, Christopher McQuarrie- the director of these two films has given us an important update that suggest us otherwise.
Mission Impossible 7 and 8 Are Not the Last Films of the Franchise?
The teaser for Mission Impossible 7 was released two months ago. The final installment of the Mission Impossible franchise was divided into two parts. Both films were supposed to film back to back and conclude to conclude the long running spy saga. The last time we we saw Ethan Hunt was in Mission Impossible: Fallout which is considered one of the best MI films. He defeated henry Cavil’s August Walker who he realized was not who he said he was. While appearing on Light the Fuse, Christopher McQuarrie the director of the Mission Impossible films revealed what he think of Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt retiring after Mission Impossible 7&8,
“Let me tell you, I’ve been working with Tom Cruise for 15 years and I cannot tell you the number of times I’ve been standing next to the man, witnessed an event and then read about it in the trades the next day and none of what they describe is actually true… When you read articles in the trades, just put the imaginary word in front of the headline: ‘The Agenda Is…’ When you read ‘anonymous sources’ or ‘sources close to the production say,’ that’s somebody putting it out there for a specific reason. That’s someone wanting others to think that for a specific reason, and you can never know for sure what those reasons are. You learn to ignore it and laugh at it. In today’s world, you wait 17 minutes and another news cycle will sweep it away.”
The film stars Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Hayley Atwell, Esai Morales and Vanessa Kirby.
Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One is slated to release on 14th July 2023 & Part Two is slated to release on 28th June 2024.
