There are no signs of slowing down for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness at the box office, not at least until biggies like Jurassic World Dominion and Top Gun: Maverick get released. Directed by the master of horror, Sam Raimi, Multiverse of Madness released on May 6, 2022.
Dr. Strange: Multiverse of Madness is also now the second highest grossing film of Marvel and Disney to break past $800M world-wide after Spiderman: No Way Home in pandemic era. Both films have surpassed the final gross of The Batman ($768.5M) and No Time To Die($774.2M).
The film received praise for Raimi’s direction, visuals and the performances of Cumberbatch, Olsen, and Gomez. Though critics and fans were mixed on the film’s other aspects like writing and pacing. Nonetheless, Multiverse of Madness is another successful nugget for Marvel that pushes the cinematic universe in a new direction of parallel universes. The film also introduced another beloved Marvel superhero, America Chavez, who can open a star-shaped portal and travel across multiverses. The screenwriter Michael Waldron of Multiverse of Madness already teased Marvel is going to explore more of Chavez and the next chapter of her journey in a future project, probably through a D+ miniseries or a movie. There were also rumors that a Captain Carter project is also in works, which we already reported earlier.
Will Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness cross $1Billion World Wide?
The current box office estimates and projections state that Multiverse of Madness is gonna make another $100M world wide, taking it’s gross past $900M, but it’s difficult to hit $1B. There are also other big releases like Top Gun: Maverick and Jurassic World Dominion geared up in May last week and June, which are going to grab a lot of screens from Multiverse of Madness. At the moment, it’s optimistic to say Multiverse of Madness will cross past $900M definitely for sure but it might fall short of reaching a billion.
