Jennifer Lawrence is one of the highest paid actress currently working in Hollywood. The actress returned last year in 2021’s Don’t Look Up after a long hiatus from the film industry. However, once back the actress doesn’t seem waste anytime as she is already here with another film. This time returning to her strong suit- comedy. If you have seen Lawrence in anything even an interview you know her comic timing is spectacular. So, No Hard Feelings was really a match made in heaven. Along with Lawrence, the film also has an absurd plot which is a good thing for a comedy film: “On the brink of losing her childhood home, a desperate woman agrees to date a wealthy couple’s introverted and awkward 19-year-old son before he leaves for college.”

The first trailer of the film absolutely blew up the internet and there is significant hype for it considering that the film doesn’t belong to a huge IP. As there is only a week left for the film’s release, a premiere was conducted where critics saw No Hard Feelings and have expressed their thoughts on Jennifer Lawrence’s comedy.

No Hard Feelings Reviews Round-Up: Silly But Funny?

Glenn Kenny (New York Times) – “Lawrence is a consistently incandescent screen presence, and her role lets her run through her greatest performative hits, so to speak.”

Michael Phillips (Chicago Tribune) – “This relaxed, agreeable comedy, filmed near but not in Montauk, works because the stars make it work, and the premise doesn’t sweat the logic part.” Original Score: 3/4

Alonso Duralde (The Film Verdict) – “If contemporary American cinema insists on having its cake and eating it when it comes to mixing the sour and the sweet, at least a film like No Hard Feelings spotlights the ability of an actor like Lawrence to deliver both with complete sincerity.”

Wenlei Ma (News.com.au) – “No Hard Feelings is surprisingly smart and tender, and balances the difficult task of being gross-out funny and achingly sweet.” Original Score: 3/5

Sophie Butcher (Empire Magazine) – “Much better appreciated as an unlikely friendship story than the raunchy comedy it’s billed as, No Hard Feelings is formulaic but fun, fuelled by the lead pair’s engaging chemistry.” Original Score: 3/5

Todd McCarthy (Deadline Hollywood Daily) – “The film is funny, gross, ballsy, lame, daring and uncertain, more or less in equal measure. The leading lady is all of the above, definitely all in and yet always ingratiating…”

Jake Wilson (Sydney Morning Herald) – “It’s richer material than anything in the last season’s worth of superhero blockbusters, and with big-screen Hollywood comedy at a low ebb, perhaps we should be thankful that No Hard Feelings exists at all. Not too thankful, however.” Original Score: 3/5

Owen Gleiberman (Variety) – “Somehow… it doesn’t come to much. The script of “No Hard Feelings” creates its own safe space, designed to do little more than let Maddie and Percy form a friendship in which they Help Each Other Grow.”

Lovia Gyarkye (Hollywood Reporter) – “This airy and refreshingly low-stakes comedy will have you steadily chuckling, if not necessarily rolling on the floor laughing. But it also has a surprising amount of heart.”

Clarisse Loughrey {Independent (UK)} – “Behind the lazy, shock-tactic humour lies a streak of genuine humanity, something to carry the film beyond mere butts and boobs.” Original Score: 3/5

Robbie Collin {Daily Telegraph (UK)} – “We had so much fun making it!” is something you often hear actors say about comedies that don’t quite work out. The cast of No Hard Feelings behave like they’re there on community service.” Original Score: 2/5

Tim Grierson (Screen International) – “A series of irritating plot twists and a predictable trajectory ultimately undercut Lawrence’s bravely brash portrait of a woman going nowhere fast.”

Peter Bradshaw (Guardian) – “It shows what a comedy turn Lawrence can still be.” Original Score: 3/5

Jude Dry (indieWire) – “The ridiculous scenarios are obviously meant to be funny, but they mostly feel contrived and arrive out of the blue, with little build-up to sudden forced outrageous.” Original Score: C-

Tara Brady (Irish Times) – “No Hard Feelings is billed as a raunchy comedy, a description so inaccurate it evokes Nelson Muntz’s immortal take, in The Simpsons, on David Cronenberg’s Naked Lunch: “I can think of at least two things wrong with that title.”” Original Score: 1/5

Nick Schager (The Daily Beast) – “Exhibits a superficial interest in ribald revelry and yet, in most respects, neuters its wilder impulses.”

No Hard Feelings is slated to release in theatres near you on June 23rd 2023.
