Now You See Me 3

Now You See Me released in the summer of 2013 and focused on a group of street magicians that collectively decide to embark on a heist using their extremely unique talent. The film was directed by Louis Leterrier, director of Fast X and The Incredible Hulk. Thanks to its unique premise the film was commercially and critically successful. Naturally, a sequel was spawned where most of the cast returned but the film was directed by Jon M. Chu who is credited for Crazy Rich Asians and will also helm the upcoming Wicked adaptation. As both the films had developed a bit of fan following it was a surprise that there was no threequel. After a wait of almost seven years Lionsgate, the studio behind the films has finally greenlit Now You See Me 3.

Now You See Me 3 Will Be A Fresh Take On The Franchise!

Now You See Me is a franchise from Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Men in Black writer Ed Solomon and The Punisher director Boaz Yakin. The films are often compared to the Ocean’s Eleven films, with one differentiating factor – magic. These are a modern rarity as both the films have earned over $700 million combined, with their budgets only ranging from $75 million to $120 million. In a landscape of major IP films, the Now You See Me franchise has achieved an impressive feat as it is an original IP.

Lionsgate announced that they’ve greenlit Now You See Me 3 this week with Venom director Ruben Fleisher at the helm of affairs. The film is described as a reimagining for the franchise. “We reimagined Now You See Me with Ruben Fleischer, who is an absolute master at shepherding franchises,” Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group Chair Joe Drake told investors. “If you think he did Venom and Uncharted, couldn’t be happier about that. That’s going to start in the spring.”

The first two films had an amazing cast including Jesse Eisenberg, Daniel Radcliffe, Woody Harrelson, Lizzy Caplan, Isla Fisher, Mark Ruffalo, and Morgan Freeman. At this point we don’t know whether these actors would make return for the third film. Considering that Drake described the film as a reimagining for the franchise, it seems like there will be a new cast. It also isn’t clear whether Fleischer will write himself or whether the original creative team will come back to the franchise.

Now You See Me 3 doesn’t have a release date at the time of writing.
