Bagman is an upcoming supernatural thriller film by Lionsgate which will be directed by Colm McCarthy and written by John Hulme. Colm Mcarthy, as some of you might know, directed the second season of BBC’s Peaky Blinders as well as the pilot of DC’s Krypton. That aside, he also directed the indie film The Girl With All The Gifts which was based on the novel of same name by Mike Carey. Bagman was announced just a few days ago and here’s everything we know about it.
Lionsgate Bags Sam Claflin for Bagman
Considering the execs, writer, and director, the film seems to be in really good hands. Add to that the lead actor of the film, i.e. Sam Claflin and we really have something to look out for. Sam Claflin kickstarted his career with The Pirates of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011). Since then, he starred in certain iconic roles including Finnick in Hunger Games Trilogy, Mycroft Holmes in Netflix’ Enola Holmes, and Oswald Mosley in Peaky Blinders Season 5&6. This is not the first time Claflin has worked with Lionsgate as they’ve done so before during The Hunger Games Trilogy. Sam Claflin in the lead is a really promising move for Lionsgate and they succeeded in instantly catching our attention.
The story of Bagman centers on a father, played by Claflin, who desperately struggles against his deepest inner fear when the childhood monster he once conquered returns to haunt him. However, this time the father has to muster the strength to not just fight for himself, but also for his family. The writer John Hulme is a popular American children’s writer so its no wonder it deals with such a concept but it will be a lot deeper and intense than his usual children’s books.
Producers of the film Bagman are Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey who also produced Twilight, Maze Runner and The Fault in Our Stars. Meredith Wieck and Jorge Alfaro are overseeing the project for Lionsgate and John Fischer has also been brought in the project and will oversee for the company. Bagman is being introduced to international buyers in the coming days at the Cannes Film Festival.
