The Pink Panther along with being a precious cartoon series is also a crime solving detective franchise that started in 1963 with the same name. The story surrounded around a clumsy detective – Inspector Clouseau played by Peter Sellers and the adventures that he goes on. The film was a severe hit with its slapstick and physical comedy. Peter Sellers’ performance as the lead was praised. The actor then went onto play the character for a sequel, titled A Shot in the Dark, which released the following year. After which, the role was briefly taken over by Alan Arkin for the 1968 film Inspector Clouseau. However, Sellers soon returned as Clouseau in the 1975 film The Return of the Pink Panther and went onto star in The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976) and Revenge of the Pink Panther (1978).
His final performance as this infamous character came in 1982’s Trail of Pink Panther, however, it was posthumous. The actor passed away before the production of the film could begin. The studio utilized previously unreleased footage of the actor from past films. After his death, the character of Jacques Clouseau was omitted from the next few installments of the franchise. However, for the 2006 and 2009 rebooted Pink Panther films Steve Martin played the role of the famed inspector. Now that there is another reboot on the line, it is only logical to think who will play the lead role of Clouseau? Well, according to multiple reports it is Eddie Murphy.
Eddie Murphy In Talks For The Pink Panther Reboot?
According to Deadline, the Pink Panther reboot film in development under Amazon’s MGM is planning to cast Eddie Murphy in the role of Inspector Jacques Clouseau. There are no reports on who else is attached to this film. However, a very close source to Murphy has said that this role is a perfect fit for the actor. It is also important to note that Murphy has admired the work of Academy Award Nominee Peter Sellers’ for a long time. So, he’ll be more than pleased to take Sellers’ legacy forward.
The Pink Panther reboot doesn’t have a release date yet.
