Johnny Depp’s reputation is clear now after the court’s decision this year but it had taken quite a hit after Heard’s allegations. Disney was quick to distance itself from the actor by dropping him from the hugely successful franchise, The Pirates if the Caribbean. Depp played Captain Jack Sparrow and his portrayal of the character is believed to be the reason behind the success of the franchise. While Disney was dropped the actor making a political statement about their no tolerance policy against crime against women, but they didn’t want to stop their Pirates of the Caribbean franchise as they love money. So, as they’d dropped Depp they had to replace him with someone to continue to franchise but instead of replacing Depp with a male actor, Disney planned to develop another Pirates of the Caribbean film with Margot Robbie.
This certainly intrigued a lot of fans as Margot Robbie was one of the finest actors working in the industry and everyone would love to see Robbie’s iteration of Jack Sparrow even if they love Depp. The project was under development for a long time and everyone thought the movie will soon head into production but now a certain update suggests that Disney has shelved the film.
Why Did Disney Cancel Margot Robbie’s Pirates of the Caribbean 6?
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Margot Robbie opened up about her Pirates of the Caribbean movie and confirmed that while the film was in development for a while, as of now Disney has shelved the film. The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actor said, “We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led—not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story—which we thought would’ve been really cool, but I guess [Disney] don’t want to do it.”
It is unclear how this news will affect Pirates of the Caribbean 6 in the main timeline. Bumblebee and Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson was initially set to pen the screenplay. Hodson praised Robbie as an actor despite the unfortunate cancellation, “Her superpower and the thing that makes her a once-in-a-generation talent is that she can do everything. If you watch Margot learn a new skill, it’s pretty terrifying. When we did stunts for Birds of Prey, the stunt teams would show something to her once. She tries it once, and by the second time, she’s better than them.”
Robbie also talked about how many actors who get Producer credits actually don’t work fir it while she has to fight for it every time. The actor said, “Then everyone realizes after a few months, ‘Oh, she actually is a producer, but even still, people direct all the money questions at my producing partners, never at me. And so many times Tom and Josey have to say, ‘She’s the one to ask, actually.’ ”
Let me know what you think of this news. Do you think this is a hint on Johnny Depp’s return as Captain Jack Sparrow?
