The beloved pirate franchise is officially getting a sixth film albeit without the fan favorite, Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow. Margot Robbie is reportedly in talks to play the lead as a new pirate captain. Disney also reportedly developing two separate Pirate films.
Margot Robbie in Talks for Pirates of the Caribbean 6
Plot details are currently unknown for Pirates 6, but according to the producer Jerry Bruckheimer, there are currently two screenplays at work in Disney, with one starring Margot Robbie as the lead in consideration and the other one without her. Depp was actually in consideration for Pirates 6, before the lawsuits and Amber Heard fiasco marooned his Hollywood career.
“Yes. We’re talking to Margot Robbie. We are developing two Pirates scripts — one with her, one without,” Bruckheimer told The Times. This confirms the longtime speculation of Margot Robbie being the new lead of Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. There is no doubt, that this Suicide Squad, Wolf of the Wall Street, and Once Upon A Time in Hollywood famed actress could be a good fit for this franchise.
Will Johnny Depp Return to the Pirates of the Caribbean?
The producer also said in a recent interview when asked about Depp’s return, “Not at this point. The future is yet to be decided.”
On the other hand, Depp recently commented that he had no interest in returning to the franchise after Disney fired him from Pirate’s 6, before offering him a chance to write the script to give the iconic Jack Sparrow character a proper goodbye. It’s no doubt that firing Depp from Pirate 6 broke his heart. After all, Depp’s portrayal as Jack Sparrow is iconic and he became the main selling point of the franchise. Disney still continues to sell merchandise with the Jack Sparrow toys made in his likeness, which makes the conglomerate a lot of money. Depp also stated he won’t return even if Disney offers him a large paycheck. Fans of Depp were outraged with Disney’s decision and there were also two fan petitions currently asking Disney to bring him back into the role.

Meanwhile, there are rumors that Disney is also planning for a Pirates reboot and the other script at work without Margot Robbie might be pointing to that direction. Anyway, Pirates fans will surely miss Depp and his portrayal Jack Sparrow. But at the same time, they’ll hope that Margot Robbie breathes a new life into the series.
