Seems like our obsession with the Presleys won’t ever to come an end. We all know who Elvis Presley was. Last year Bazz Luhrmann gave us a biopic on the legendary figure which had Austin Butler’s career best performance. This year Sofia Coppola is doing the same, but as usual, she won’t make the obvious, she is making a film on Elvis’ better half Priscilla, titled the same. It is based on a 1985 memoir by Priscilla Presley. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival this year and received glowing reviews from critics. The Sofia Coppola directorial also released in theatres back in October and did reasonably well keeping in mind the film’s type. To recover the budget, the film is now heading to online and VOD platforms two months after its theatrical debut.
Priscilla Gets Imminent Online Release Date!
When To Stream has revealed that Priscilla will be available for purchase on digital and PVOD (Premium Video on Demand) platforms like Apple iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube Movies, and more on December 15th, 2023, 49 days after it premiered in theatres. The film debuted in US theatres on October 27th, where it grossed $20 million in its run. Unfortunately, the film’s budget is also $20 million, meaning for it to break even, the film needed to earn over $40 million.
One of the reasons, for the film’s dull box office performance is lack of international markets. The film, initially set for distribution by Stage 6 Films and Sony Pictures outside of the United States, faced complications when Sony dropped out of the project due to issues with music rights. A24 will be hopeful that the film will at least make up the remainder of its budget through digital and VOD sales. Currently, we don’t have any idea on the film’s physical media release. If it follows the conventional route then a month from its digital release. That will be another opportunity for the film to boosts its sales.
The film stars Cailee Spaeny, Jacob Elordi, Kamilla Kowal, Dagmara Dominczyk, Tim Post, Jorja Cadence and Luke Humphrey. Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla will release in theatres near in India on December 15th, 2023.
