After the incredible Umbrella Academy Season 2, Netflix is back with yet another superhero project to keep us going. Starring the Academy Award winner, Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Project Power is now out on Netflix but is it worth a watch? Let’s find out!
No spoilers follow below, so relax.

Film – Project Power (2020)
Duration 1h 55m
Director –  Henry Joost, Ariel Schulman
Main Cast – Jamie Foxx, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dominique Fishback, Rodrigo Santoro

Rating – 3/5
As entertaining as it is, Project Power revolves around familiar superhero clichés and brings nothing new to the table. Though the basic concept of a pill which grants you certain superpowers for 5 minutes is unique, nothing else is. But just cause it feels a bit formulaic, doesn’t mean it isn’t enjoyable. Awesome CGI and cool performances ensure that the film remains a fun-filled ride worth your time. By that, I am not saying that the film is a must watch or it would have been a part of Must Watch Alert.

Apart from being predictable, the film suffers from various other issues as well, for example, average screenplay, too many plotholes and lack of a good antagonist. In fact there is no significant antagonist and a superhero film which focuses only on its heroes, is kinda mean in my opinion. Another major issue I had with this film, was an underwhelming ending which doesn’t leave the audience wanting for more. But those 3 stars I embedded on the poster already show that film had issues, so instead, let’s talk about the appreciable aspects of the film.

Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt act as the driving force of the film, while Dominique Fishback too plays a powerful role as Robin. Jamie Foxx overshadows everyone and everything in this film for me and was absolute fun to watch! So, as far as performances and heroes are concerned, Project Power film hits all the right spots. The film was reasonably funny as well because I remember smiling at a few places but definitely don’t remember those places. As I mentioned above, it had no lasting impact on me.

One highly impressive thing about Project Power was its sheer scale, which was no less than your typical Marvel and DC films. The CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) of the film was not just good; it was mind blowing, considering it’s budget. So, kudos to Netflix for that. Another thing which makes this film really enjoyable was its hip-hop soundtrack, which would make you involuntarily shake your head to the beats.

Apart from that, Project Power also boasts adrenaline pumping and well choreographed action. From technical point of view, it has pretty good cinematography with certain innovative and unique shots. One particular action sequence has been shot from inside a round glass chamber in a rotatory tracking movement, while the action happens outside the chamber. Really, really commendable camerawork there guys!

To sum up, if you are looking for a fun no-brainer film to watch after a busy day at work, Project Power would be the one to go with. On the other hand, if you want some superhero stuff which has the ability to surprise you and at the same time entertain you, go for something like The Umbrella Academy (Read our review here).
