Queens of the Dead: When Drag Queens Meet Zombies

It’s going to get much louder, bloodier, and much more spectacular for Halloween 2025. The recently released trailer for Queens of the Dead, the new zombie horror comedy that has everyone talking, shows that it isn’t holding back when it comes to gore, glitter, or shade. Imagine a cross between the drama of RuPaul’s Drag Race, the mayhem of Brooklyn’s nightlife, and the zombie mayhem of George A. Romero. Add hairspray and high heels, and you’ve got the look.

The Plot: Sequins vs. Zombies

The story begins at a massive Brooklyn warehouse during a drag show and club party. Backstage, queens bicker, performers panic, and a frazzled promoter struggles to keep the night under control. Suddenly, zombies crash the party. The queens, partygoers, and frenemies must band together to survive. Armed with anything they can grab — glue guns, stilettos, and curling irons — they fight off the undead. The mix of horror, humor, and campy spectacle promises laughs, screams, and plenty of glitter flying everywhere.

Behind the Scenes and Cast

Tina Romero, the daughter of renowned zombie filmmaker George A. Romero, is directing the movie. Together with comedian Erin Judge, she co-wrote the script, crafting a tale that pays homage to traditional zombie customs while incorporating vibrant queer energy. The film strikes a balance between heartfelt sincerity and outrageous humour. It celebrates identity, community, and survival in the face of chaos. Fans can anticipate an aggressive, unrepentant camp experience mixed with the ferocity of a zombie outbreak.

Katy O’Brian stars as Dre, the stressed promoter trying to hold the night together. Jaquel Spivey plays Sam, caught in the middle of the zombie chaos. Comedy icon Margaret Cho brings her trademark humor as Pops. Other main actors include Cheyenne Jackson, Riki Lindhome, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Eve Lindley, and Karan Brar, each adding unique energy to the ensemble. The drag lineup is equally impressive. Nina West, Dominique Jackson, Tomás Matos, and more deliver camp, one-liners, and unforgettable performances. Their presence ensures the film highlights queer culture while keeping the comedy high.

Release Details: When Is It Coming Out?

At the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year, Queens of the Dead made its debut. Just in time for Halloween, it will be released in theatres on October 24, 2025. With a duration of 99 minutes, the action is kept lively and fast-paced. Shudder and Independent Film Company are in charge of distribution. Soon after it opens in theatres, fans will be able to watch it at home via streaming.

This isn’t just another zombie comedy. Centering queer voices and drag performers, it brings a fresh twist to a familiar genre. The film combines gore, humor, and heart with campy, outrageous performances. The queens aren’t just lip-syncing for their lives; they’re fighting zombies, drama, and chaos — with style, sass, and plenty of glitter.
