Margot Robbie’s career has been thriving, not just as an actor but as a producer. Before Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, Robbie produced acclaimed films like I, Tonya, Birds of Prey, and Emerald Fennell’s debut feature film Promising Young Woman. The film won Fennell an Academy Award for best original screenplay. This year Fennell is back with her sophomore feature Saltburn, featuring Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, and Rosamund Pike.
Trailer, Plot, and Cast of ‘Saltburn’
On August 30, MGM released a tease trailer and the makers have also released a couple of first-look images of Saltburn that give us a glimpse into the seductive and ostentatious world. The trailer hints that Saltburn is a must-watch for fans of psychological drama.
Set in the mid-2000s, Saltburn has been portrayed as a wicked story of desire and privilege. It explores the aristocratic high society of England in a gripping story of obsession with “a soundtrack of early 21st-century pop bangers.” Regarding the plot, most details have been kept concealed. However, we know Barry Keoghan plays Oliver Quick, an Oxford student. Oliver gets infatuated with an upper-class man Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi). Felix invites Oliver to his elite estate, ‘Saltburn’, for an unforgettable summer. The other cast members include Rosamund Pike, Alison Oliver, Carey Mulligan, Ewan Mitchell, Paul Rhys, Richard Grant, and more.
The official logline of Saltburn released by Amazon reads: “Struggling to find his place at Oxford University, student Oliver Quick finds himself drawn into the world of the charming and aristocratic Felix Catton, who invites him to Saltburn, his eccentric family’s sprawling estate, for a summer never to be forgotten.”
When Will ‘Saltburn’ Come Out?
According to the review of Collider’s Emma Kiely, “Saltburn may not add anything new to the wealth conversation, but it does paint a different picture of lords and ladies than we are used to. Fennell’s direction outdoes her writing here, and the cinematography from Linus Sandgrenis exquisite (no surprise). Saltburn is more something to behold than to be understood, swapping out biting commentary for some glorious images featuring actors who rarely miss a beat.”
Saltburn premiered as the opening film of the 67th BFI London Film Festival on October 4, 2023. MGM will distribute the film in the United States. It will have a limited release on November 17, followed by a wide release on November 22. The film will have to go up against Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Napoleon. Since MGM (owned by Amazon Studios) is distributing the film, we can expect Saltburn to be available on Prime Video.
