Robert Downey Jr’s Sherlock Holmes 3 is stuck in a development and production hell for a long time. The film which had Dexter Fletcher attached to direct, replacing Guy Ritchie who directed the previous two films.
Sherlock Holmes 3 Plot & Other Details
The plot of Sherlock Holmes 3 is currently under wraps but the second film, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, has ended with Sherlock faking his death in a duel with his archenemy Professor Moriarty, portrayed by the acclaimed actor Jared Harris. The film left an open ending for Sherlock to return, but due to Robert Downey Jr’s other commitments and involvement with the MCU, the film didn’t take off. Dexter Fletcher came on board as director in 2019 and a writers room was setup to carve out the plot, which is a first of its kind of attempt for a feature film.
Dexter Fletcher said the following words about the film in a recent interview and the reasons for the delay:
“The pandemic derailed it. I do think it will get made. I think it has to be made. I don’t know what the timeline of that is, unfortunately, but I believe it should be. It’s fantastic. I think it’s about all the right people being at the right place, at the right time. I think it’s that. It’s one of those cruel twists of fate, where the pandemic hit and that scattered people around the world to the wind. But I know that the appetite is huge for it, and I’m sure there are other people acutely aware of that as well. But I believe it should be because it’s brilliant. I very much hope so.”
Dexter in the meantime had gone to direct and executive produce Paramount+’s miniseries The Offer and has a film starring Chris Evans and Ana De Armas, titled Ghosted, set to release on Apple Tv+
