What The Doctor Strange and Sinister Creator Has To Offer This Time?

After being pushed back from its February 4, 2022 release, this chilling movie is all set to hit the theatres worldwide on June 24, 2022. The reviews for this much-anticipated horror thriller have started rolling in. The Hollywood Reporter says the film felt “very true to the source material while significantly enhancing its theatrical appeal”. Bloody Disgusting lauds the makers for bringing back “the same traits and structure of Sinister to transform Joe Hill’s short into a feature-length nightmare full of ghostly kids, violence, scares, and a trio of unforgettable performances”. Dennis Schwartz appreciates the movie’s third act, calling it “spine-tingling”. The gripping thriller seems to be “one where the horrors of everyday life are not all that easy to escape,” admires Deadline Hollywood Daily.

Ethan Hawke In The Most Terrifying Role Of His Career

The trailer debuted online on October 13, 2021, showing Ethan Hawke as the kidnapping monster he’s embodying in this 70s horror thriller, which has captivated fans. Critics have applauded Hawke’s chilling performance, praising the actor’s caliber that helps intensify the emotional impact and sense of genuine danger. Daily Dead states, “Hawke gives a wholly transformative, bloodcurdling, and captivating performance”. Adding to that, Dread Central commends the Mason Thames, who stars opposite Hawke in the movie, pointing out that “Hawke’s performance is fearless. But it’s Mason Thames’ nuanced turn as Finney that keeps The Black Phone grounded when the more supernatural elements come calling.”

Does The Black Phone Live Up To Its Predecessors?

Showbiz Cheat Sheet writes that the film is “stirring and thoroughly captivating.” The viewers have also not failed to compare it to the much-appreciated Sinister, which left a lasting scare on its audience. IGN Movies calls it a “clear sister to Sinister that has managed to exceed extremely high expectations in nearly every aspect.” What To Watch rated it 4/5 and described it “as horrifying as Sinister through different means.”

While some top critics are absolutely buzzed about the movie, others have mixed feelings about it. IndieWire deems it “a bleak yet entertaining reminder that horror is omnipresent.” The Playlist discusses the film’s shortcomings, claiming that “even the most patient audience may find themselves frustrated waiting for these pieces to snap into place,” though they said the film has much to admire.

All in all, The Black Phone has received excellent reviews from critics all over the world. Now, all we have to do is catch it on the big screen and decide for ourselves.
