Edgar Wright is one of the finest directors working in the current times. The style is his films are so distinctive that whenever you watch a Edgar Wright film, you know right away that this is an Edgar Wright film. In his illustrious career, he has only delivered one financial failure which is Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. However, this film also happens to be one of the best films from the directors according to many people. I think many people know him because of Baby Driver. I liked his latest venture Last Night in Soho which released in 2021 and starred Anya Tayler Joy, Thomasine McKenzie and Matt Smith. The film was very well received and according to me was one of the best films of 2021. Last Night in Soho was also a commercial success, despite its mature themes. After Soho, the director has moved on to a new project called The Chain, which happens to be very different than his previous works and has recently added Emma Stone to its cast.
The Chain Is Edgar Wright’s New Film!
The Academy Award Winner Emma Stone has been cast as the star of Edgar Wright’s new film – The Chain. The film itself is an adaptation of Adrian McKinty’s 2019 award-winning thriller novel of the same name. Stone is set to play the lead character who is the mother of a 12 year old who gets kidnapped and in turn to rescue him, she has to kidnap another child to have hers released and continue “The Chain.” The deal between Universal Pictures and the author went through in June 2020 where a seven figure check was signed.
Director Edgar Wright was immediately brought in to helm The Chain and X-Men: First Class’ Jane Goldman will write the screenplay. The premise of the novel is truly terrifying and extremely interesting. The official synopsis reads:
“YOUR PHONE RINGS. A STRANGER HAS KIDNAPPED YOUR CHILD. TO FREE THEM YOU MUST ABDUCT SOMEONE ELSE’S CHILD. YOUR CHILD WILL BE RELEASED WHEN YOUR VICTIM’S PARENTS KIDNAP ANOTHER CHILD. IF ANY OF THESE THINGS DON’T HAPPEN: YOUR CHILD WILL BE KILLED. YOU ARE NOW PART OF THE CHAIN”
The Chain doesn’t have a release date yet but considering everything the film will release sometime in late 2024 or early 2025, depending on how the development goes. Emma Stone is a great dramatic actress who will be a perfect fit for a role like this.
