If you’re not into big blockbuster movies during the holiday season then this December has some options for you. Apart from Sean Durkin’s The Iron Claw, if you want some low key cinema to experience then you can watch The Color Purple in theatres near you. I’m not talking about the original motion picture by Steven Spielberg which was a major hit in the 1980s as well. I’m talking about the 2023 remake of that film directed by Blitz Bazawule and starring Fantasia Barrino, Hailey Bailey, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo and Taraji P. Henson. Many were skeptical about this remake but the film has turned out to be one of the most critically acclaimed films of the year. So, if you missed the film in theatres and want to watch it online then you’re in luck as we have some good news for you.
When Can You Watch The Color Purple Online?
According to a new report by dvdreleases, The Color Purple will be available on digital and VOD platforms like Vudu, Apple iTunes and Amazon Prime Video from January 26th, 2024. Meaning the film will have its digital debut 30 days after its theatrical release, that’s a decent theatre to online release window. Despite not being a regular holiday movie, The Color Purple remake found a decent audience for itself. Made on a budget of $15 million, the Blitz Bazawule directorial has earned $36.4 million under a week of its release.
The film is clearly a financial success and by the time it gets to its online debut, the film would’ve definitely added some more millions to its final collection. For now we don’t have any update on the film’s DVD and Blu-ray release date. The same goes with the streaming release. As soon as we get an update, I’ll be the first one to tell you guys.
