The Creator is a new sci-fi film from Gareth Edwards, who we know because of his work in big franchises like Star Wars and Monsterverse. The film stars John David Washington, Gemma Chan, Ken Wantanabe, Amar Chadha-Patel, Benedict Wong and Allison Janney. The film was able to gather a substantial amount of from its trailer and cast. At SDCC’23, Edwards made an appearance to promote the film and his description of the film felt so fresh in the sci-fi landscape. He described the film as, “The Creator has a double meaning because on one side it means the person who is building A.I.,” Edwards further added, “In the eyes of the West in our movie, [A.I.] is public enemy number one … It’s like Osama bin Laden, ‘We want them dead. They’re doing this terrible thing.’ On the other side of the fence, from the A.I.’s point of view and the people who live in Asia, the Creator is like God, is creating all these beautiful people. And so, it has this double meaning.”
Based on his description, the film certainly deserves our attention. As the film’s release date is nearing it is finally opening up to critics. The very first reactions for Gareth Edwards’ The Creator are out and they’re magnificent.
