The First Omen is a new horror film releasing this week. It is directed by Arkasha Stevenson and stars Nell Tiger Free in the lead role. The film is a prequel to the horror classic The Omen (1976) that had started this iconic horror franchise. Last month, the social media embargo was lifted and there was flurry of reviews that were extremely positive. Each and every review called it the best horror film of the year that will absolutely tell a harrowing story of gothic horror. But are these reviews valid? They weren’t from official critics. They were maybe from random fans or were paid reviews that were meant to promote the film further. So, when will we get official reviews for The First Omen? Let’s find out.
When Will The Reviews For The First Omen Come Out?
According to a reputed Reddit thread, The First Omen will review embargo will lift up on April 4th, 2024 at 12 PM ET. Meaning the official unfiltered reviews of the film will be out just a day before the film’s release. This is not a good omen. Generally, the social media embargo lift up date is an indication for a studio’s faith in their product. Let me explain.
The embargo lifting up on 4th i.e., just a days before the film’s theatrical release date is a bad sign because this means the studio is afraid of critics spreading a bad word of mouth. Otherwise, the reviews would’ve been out at least three to four days before the release so that they can be used a marketing material.
Last year, critically and commercially successful films like Barbie and Oppenheimer both lifted their embargos 2-3 days before their release. While critical and box office bombs like Meg 2: The Trench and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom both lifted their review embargos on the day of the film’s release.
