Michael-Fassbender-The-Killer

Michael Fassbender in The Killer

David Fincher, one of the most formidable directors of our times is back — and this time with a neo-noir film, The Killer, that one knows is about to become a modern classic. The director’s latest outing with Netflix stars Michael Fassbender and Chris Parnell is currently gathering praise online for its hand-painted poster, something that has become a rarity in the times of gaudy digital Marvelesque posters.  The movie is set to premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, and Fincher has been tied to the development of the film since 2007.

Adapted from a graphic novel written by Alexis Nolent, The Killer follows the story of a hitman who finds himself unraveling after a few events. Nolent, who writes under the pseudonym Matz, had spoken about his graphic novel, A hit man is a figure that allows dealing with such matters in a nonapologetic, nonjudgmental way, and therefore allows us to tell a story that relies on his state of mind as well as his actions.” Netflix’s synopsis for the movie reads as,After a fateful near miss, an assassin battles his employers, and himself, on an international manhunt he insists isn’t personal.”

Michael Fassbender stars in this film after a long absence from screen post taking up auto-racing. His last big screen venture had been X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which he had starred in along with Sophie Turner and James Mcavoy. Chris Parnell had last appeared in Top Gun : Maverick, one of the biggest successes in the box office as of late, and also in the critically acclaimed series Barry. Tilda Swinton and Sophie Charlotte too make important appearances.

Post Premiering at the 80th International Venice Film Festival, on September 3, the film will go for a limited theatrical release on the 27th of October. Then it will finally be available on Netflix from 10th November, 2023.  Netflix’s chief of film, Scott Stuber said of the movie, “It is about the methodology of that world, which David details better than anyone,” Stuber said. “He’s so good in the detail of method … of watching something unfold. It’s a really fun, big movie in the hands of one of the best film-makers.”
