We all know that Henry Cavill has opened his account in 2024 with Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle. The film was a box office disaster but don’t worry that’s not the only Henry Cavill film releasing this year. So, Henry Cavill fans, what is better than one spy film? Two spy films. The second film of Cavill to be released in 2024 is Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which is based on Damien Lewis’s book about Winston Churchill and Ian Fleming’s secret combat organization during WWII that employed dirty methods to kill the Nazis. This organization has became a prototype of the modern “black ops.” Cavill was the first actor to get an offer from Guy Ritchie to star in the film.
The trailer of the film was met with wide acclaim as it showed Henry Cavill in a completely new light with his manicked persona. The Guy Ritchie directorial has been made on a budget of $60 million so it would need a decent run at the box office to make its money back. We don’t have any box office projections yet but I’m hoping it would do good. Generally, there is a correlation between a film’s box office performance and its digital debut, so based on the online streaming release date of the film we can determine a film’s success.
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare Digital Debut Is Around The Corner!
According to a new listing on dvdreleasedates, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare will be available for purchase or rent on digital and VOD platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Vudu and Apple iTunes from May 10th, 2024. This means that the Guy Ritchie directorial will have a theatre to digital release window of 21 days. A film with less than a month’s digital release window is most likely a box office failure.
Universal isn’t an aggressive studio like Warner Bros. so considering that they’ve already set an online release date for the film that too so early, it reflects that the studio doesn’t have faith in the film to recover $60 million from its theatrical run. This is a surprise because the Henry Cavill starrer has great reviews from critics with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 71% from 84 reviews (Audience score: 93%) and an IMDb rating of 7.2/10.
If the film is met with amazing response in its theatrical run then Universal will definitely rethink this release date and delay it. There is no update on the film’s DVD and Blu-ray release date as of now, but whenever there is an update I’ll be the first one to let you guys know.
Along with Henry Cavill in the lead, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare also stars Alan Ritchson, Eiza Gonzalez, Henry Golding, Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Cary Elwes.
