Tell me honestly, did you have a Winnie the Pooh soft toy in your childhood. It is only natural, Disney had commercialized all our childhood. If you’re up to date on all the adventures of Winnie the Pooh you must be in love the characters and the world they’re in. So did you ever imagine that there would a horror…nay slasher film with these characters? While I have not been a fan of Disney movies and characters as I didn’t watch them in my childhood. You’d have the agree with me it is not same when you watch these characters when you’re older. So, I don’t generally concern myself with new Disney releases. However, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is no Disney film. It may have Disney characters but once you see a glance of the film, you realize that this is something different. So, without any further ado let’s see why.
What is Winnie the Pooh doing in a Slasher?
When I heard that we’re getting a Winnie the Pooh horror film I didn’t know how to process the news. It was certainly unheard of and the concept looked weirder than a Christopher Nolan film. So, I was intrigued by the premise. The film is written and directed by Rhys Waterfield. He doesn’t has much to his credit to talk about. He looks like a film producer predominantly. I’m not sure but I won’t be surprised if this is his directorial debut.
Today, the film dropped its trailer and my God am I surprised. It’s not because the film has done something spectacular but it is seeing these characters doing some heinous things. The trailer tells us that Christopher Robin has abandoned his beloved animals and what happens when he revisits them after many years. These animals have turned wild and are out for blood. The trailer had an unsettling and an eerie vibe. Although, that might be because these are supposed to be children’s characters. However, that is to the film’s credit to come up with such an original premise and idea.
There is a lot of blood and when I say that I mean a lot. The film is not shy to go all out and show these beloved characters as blood thirsty demons. I’m excited for the film. The film doesn’t have a big name attached to it. I’m not aware of the film’s budget but I can make out it is small venture. One thing that stood out for me in the trailer in a bad way is Winnie the Pooh’s look. It looks fake, it feels as if some guy has just worn a mask and is killing people. The Piglet is great though.
Because of the trailer, this has become one of the films I’m looking forward to, later this year. The film’s cast includes Amber Doig-Thorne as Alice, Maria Taylor as Maria, Danielle Ronald as Zoe, Natasha Tosini as Lara, May Kelly as Tina, Paula Coiz as Mary, Natasha Rose Mills as Jess, Craig David Dowsett as Winnie-the-Pooh, Chris Cordell as Piglet and Nikolai Leon as Christopher Robin. Let me know what do you think of the film and the trailer. I found it really ominous.
Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey doesn’t have have release date yet. It is rumored the film will release sometime in 2022.
