Not many expected this but The First Omen isn’t the only horror movie coming out in April. I don’t know how many would consider Immaculate as an outright horror film so I’m not counting it. However, truly out of nowhere a new horror film has arrived onto the scene called Abigail. The film is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and is supposed to be a reimagining of the 1936 Universal Classic Monsters film Dracula’s Daughter. The film stars Alisha Weir as the eponymous daughter of Count Dracula, alongside Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, Will Catlett, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud, and Giancarlo Esposito.
The official synopsis of the film reads, “Abigail, the daughter of a powerful underworld figure from whom they demand a $50 million ransom. What follows afterwards, results in a bloodbath. An impressive trailer of the film was just released yesterday that has gotten horror fans excited all over the world.” In my opinion, this film sounds like the perfect movie for a horror movie night with friends. So, if you’re wondering when will it be available to watch at home then don’t worry, we have you covered.
Abigail Will Start Streaming Soon!
According to a new listing on dvdreleasedates, Abigail will be available for purchase or rent on digital and VOD platforms like Apple iTunes, Vudu and Amazon Prime Video from May 7th, 2024. If this release date sticks then the horror flick will have a theatre to digital window of 18 days only. I can understand why the film has gotten such a quick digital debut given the nature and genre of it but still considering the hype the film has generated with its trailer I hoped Universal would be a little more lenient it.
I mean for a film made on a reported budget of $28 million and it is already tracking around $12-$14 million. So, clearly the audience is wanting to see the film on the big screen. Also, such a low profile horror film generally doesn’t have much material but the critical reception for it has been amazing so far. A Rotten Tomatoes score of 82% from 93 reviews and an IMDb rating of 7/10, that’s impressive.
No update has been given about the film’s DVD and Blu-ray release date, whenever that happens, I’ll be the first one to update you guys.
