Zombie isn’t just a category of horror films/series anymore but has actually turned into a genre of its own. We’ve seen zombies on trains, airplanes, ships, islands, and what not in various media from animated and live-action movies/series to video games and graphic novel. We have also seen them used in various genres aside from horror including comedy, superhero, war, etc. So, technically the zombie sub-genre is quite packed but we still see some incredible new productions like The Last of Us or All of Us Are Dead which breath new life into it. As it happens, fans are quite excited about All of Us Are Dead Season 2, which is basically Zombies in High School. And, here is all you need to know about it.
When Will All of Us Are Dead Season 2 Release?
The first season of the series was released on January 28, 2022, on Netflix and was watched for over 474.26 million hours within the first 30 days. Naturally, in June 2022, the series was renewed for a second season. So, All of Us Are Dead has been confirmed and is definitely going to arrive on Netflix. It is just a matter of when. Good thing is that being a South Korean production, it will not be affected by the ongoing writers and SAG-AFTRA strikes in Hollywood. Unless, like zombies, the strikes spread globally as well.
But the bad news is that Park Ji-hu, who plays On-jo, confirmed that filming for Season 2 has yet to begin. As reported, it will not start filming until late 2023 owing to unavailability of some of the main cast members. On a realistic yet hopeful timeline, if the production wraps up in early 2024, fans can expect All of Us Are Dead Season 2 to premiere by mid 2024. That too is in case the filming begins within the next 2 months and the post production doesn’t take long. So, it is definitely coming out but not anytime soon.
Season 2 Cast and Plot
All of Us Are Dead Season 1 ended with a massive cliffhanger where Nam-ra reappeared to meet her friends again. As you may know, in this zombie world, some of the infected somehow manage to retain their humanity but develop certain zombie like trait as well. Therefore, Nam-Ra is now basically a half-zombie and half-human hybrid. Talking on the matter director Lee Jae-kyoo said they are planning to introduce new kinds of zombies in the next season. Aside from that, Season 2 might twist things and the zombie sub-genre up by showcasing zombie species survival instead.
Many directions, settings and scenes were intentionally produced to expand the story into an additional season, including the introduction of the new races of zombies — immune and immortal. If the first season can be seen as having presented humanity‘s survival, the next season can talk about the survival of zombies. I hope to present viewers with another season.
