Sandeep Reddy Vanga has done it again. He has made a film and it looks like the entire Bollywood is only talking about it. Despite having another major release this weekend (Sambahadur), Animal is the talk of the town, be it good or bad (HOC Review here). I have also fallen victim to the hype and watched the film. In my opinion, it is one of the most harrowing experiences of 2023. Not because of the misogyny or violence, simply as a film – it is a menace. I love Ranbir Kapoor but he can’t make up for the illogical and bad writing. Trust me, Kabir Singh barring the controversies, was a decent venture. Unfortunately, the only similarity between Kabir Singh and Animal is Vanga’s great choice in music. The director definitely has produced one of the best music albums of 2023. However, more than any original song, it looks like a remake of an Iranian song is getting all the attention.
Animal – Iranian Song Jamaal Jamaaloo Original Video!
The catchy song at the entry of Bobby Deol in Animal is actually an Iranian song called Jamaal Jamaaloo. The version played in Animal is a remake of the original song which has been performed by the Shirazi Choir and is almost half a century old. The song has absolutely taken the internet by storm. All the criticism towards the film on one side and the appreciation for the amazing soundtrack of the film on the other. While most of the videos of Jamaal Jamaaloo now are out after the release of Animal, listing it as Animal’s Iranian song, some older videos from 2013 exist on YouTube with comments from original fans. The peppy love song has lyrics that roughly translate to: “Oh my cutness, don’t play with my heart; You are leaving on a journey. And I’m getting crazy; Oh my love, my beloved.”
After a lot of digging, the only information about the song I could find on the internet is the Shirazi Choir was a girls’ musical choir of Kharazemi Girls’ High School active in Iran in the 1950s. The poem Jamaal Jamaalo was written by the famous Iranian poet Bijan Samandar. In 1958, they gave their famous rendition of this song, which would be performed in ran’s weddings and functions for decades to come. This tradition can also be seen in Animal as this song is performed on Abrar Haque’s (Bobby Deol) third wedding.
I’m absolutely love in love with this song and much like the internet, I can’t get it out of my head and my feed. Let me know if you also love this song. If you have anymore facts about this song then write it down in the comments section. Listen to the song hear:
