Amber Heard has not been sacked from her role as Mera in ‘Aquaman 2 and the Lost Kingdom,’ contrary to an exclusive report that earlier rumored that the actress was going to be recast, reports Variety. “The rumour mill continues as it has from day one — inaccurate, insensitive, and slightly insane,” a spokesperson for Heard told Variety. Heard previously starred as Mera in the first “Aquaman,” besides making an appearance in “Justice League” and the reconfigured “Zack Snyder’s Justice League”.
Amber Heard Will Not Be Fired From Aquaman 2
In recent months, Heard’s star power has been tainted by a highly public defamation trial wherein her ex-husband Johnny Depp sued her over a 2018 Washington Post column that he said suggested he was physically abusive to her. As the jury determined that Depp’s reputation and career were harmed due to the publication, the Pirates of the Caribbean star was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages, while Heard won two million in a countersuit.
Throughout the trial, social media outpoured their love and support for Depp over Heard, portraying him as a folk hero while presenting her as a liar, resulting in a slew of memes and TikToks ridiculing her testimonies, reports Variety. She brought up the social media backlash during her first public interview about the trial this week.
Heard accuses netizens of not giving her a fair depiction on social media irrespective of whether they believe she is lying and deserves all the hate and anger. “You can’t tell me you think this is a fair situation,” she said.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is currently slated for release in nine months on March 17, 2023.
