2022’s biggest release Avatar: The Way of Water came out around 5 months ago and shook the world of cinema with its exceptional VFX and theatrical experience. Although the film was really basic in its story-telling and had absolutely no plot, it was still an experience like never before. This movie is the reason why people want to watch film on theatres and hence, it should technically be experienced on the biggest screen with the best sound channel possible. I’d go as far as to say that if you didn’t watch this film in IMAX or Laser, there’s no point in watching it. However, many of you are waiting for it to arrive on Disney Plus so that you can re-experience this epic from the comfort of your homes. For those of you who haven’t seen it yet, it won’t be as good as theatres but it will still give you an insight into what you missed!
Avatar: The Way of Water – Disney Plus Streaming Release Date
Getting straight to point, there is no official streaming release date for Avatar: The Way of Water as of now. It has been nearly 5 months and the film is still playing in various theatres around of the globe. The film has earned over $2.3 Billion worldwide and it is still adding a bit of silver to its treasury every week. So, the film’s streaming release is expected to be prolonged even further.
A thing to notice however, is that Avatar 2 has already had its digital release on March 28 last month. As you may know, digital release is when the movie will be officially available for purchase/rent on digital retailers sites like Apple iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, Vudu, Google Play/YouTube, Microsoft Movies & TV, Xfinity, Verizon Fios TV, DIRECTV. Recently, Disney has followed the trend of releasing its properties on digital and streaming together, however, that is not the case with Avatar 2.
Obviously, Disney won’t remove the film from theatres until it completely stops performing or they start incurring losses. At the same time, selling it on digital mediums grants them extra profit but if they release it on Disney Plus, all that will stop. As you may know films usually hit streaming when they lose their theatrical and disc/digital sale potential. So it is expected that for Avatar 2 this will be the case till the end of June 2023. Therefore, the Disney Plus streaming release date for Avatar: The Way of Water is expected to be in the first week of July 2023.
Of course, Disney can decide to fast-track that but all things considered, it still won’t hit streaming in April or May 2023. Once again, if you haven’t seen the film in theatres till now and there is some theatre near you which is still playing it, I’ll urge you to experience it there instead. You might or might not like the plot, but its a film made for theatres and it’s something you’ll relish forever and pass on to the next generation.
