Barbie: 2 Cameos That Could Have Been And How The Actors Regret Missing Out

Barbie director Greta Gerwig and Oscar nominee Timothee Chalamet have been known to be a long time duo, with the latter starring in two of the director’s features – at first as Kyle in Ladybird, and then as Laurie in her adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women. In fact, she is known to have started off the duo of Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan, who are huge fan-favorites when it comes to critically acclaimed indie movies.

What Happened To The Barbie Cameo of The Two Actors?

Fans had been speculating and hoping at the same time that Ronan and Chalamet would make cameo appearances in the Barbie movie, considering their long standing association with the billion-dollar grossing movie director and the lovely bonds they share with her. Gerwig, however, had later cleared up these rumors by stating that they would not be making any appearances in the movie because of scheduling conflicts, even though they had wanted to be a part of the movie. Gerwig also stated, in a now viral interview byte, “It felt like doing something without my children. I mean, I’m not their mom, but I sort of feel like their mom.”

It is understandable that the director would feel like that, when Chalamet had called himself the son of Luca Guadagnino and Greta Gerwig, both directors he has collaborated twice in the movies — in Call Me By Your Name and Bones and All by Guadagnino, and the aforementioned projects with Gerwig. Gerwig also stated in a recent interview that when the Dune star came to the set of Barbie, the actor had been regretting missing out on  the movie, stating that he should have been in it. Gerwig told Hollywood First Look, I tried to get them both in it. They both couldn’t do it. Although Timothée did come by the set and then said, ‘I should have been in this,’ And I was like, ‘I know! Why aren’t you in this?”

Chalamet has a packed schedule this year, with Dune Pt. II hitting the screens on 3rd November this year reuniting with Zendaya, and his Little Women co-star Florence Pugh. He is also starring as the titular character in Wonka, picking up after Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp – and the movie will be released on 29th December, 2023. Ronan, on the other hand, was in Ireland during the production of Barbie – since she is starring alongside Paul Mescal and producing the movie Foe, which will drop on 6th October, 2023.
