Three weeks at the box office and the Barbie movie crossed $1 billion ($1.03 billion) at the worldwide box office. This made the Margot Robbie led film, the second highest grossing film of the year, just behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($1.35 billion). Barbie is also just the second film to breach the $1 billion mark, released this year. The Greta Gerwig directorial became the first film directed solely by a woman to gross over $1 billion at the box office. Barbie’s figures are second highest for any female led movie in cinema history, beating Wonder Woman’s $828 million but lagging behind Captain Marvel’s $1.13 billion. Given this overwhelming success of the film, the chatter of a sequel has started. While no one has commented on this possibility but did you know the film actually had a post credit scene that teases the story to come.

Barbie Had A Post Credit Scene, But Scrapped It!

If you stayed until the end of Barbie’s credits in hopes of a post credit scene then you must’ve been left disappointed as there was none. Oh, wait! Actually there was, it was scrapped on the edit table when the final cut was made. In a recent episode of Art of the Cut, Barbie editor Nick Houy was in conversation when he revealed a corkboard of every single main Barbie scene is shown. Those of you who are eagle-eyed enough would’ve noticed that there’s something after the end-credits, titled: ‘Midge in Labor’.

The post-credits scene seemingly features Midge (Emerald Fennell) giving birth – with Helen Mirren helping with delivery. Interestingly, there are more batch of cards in the lower-right corner that have been blurred out. However, other versions of that image are available on the internet and they reveal potential deleted scenes like ‘Barbie Land Creation’, ‘Barbie Monument’, ‘Barbies Can Save Us’ and ‘Ken Toys Returned’. Check out the corkboard from the Barbie movie:

Barbie’s script has been co-written with Greta Gerwig and her partner Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story, Frances Ha, White Noise). Margot Robbie will star in the titular role with Ryan Gosling playing Ken, Barbie’s male counterpart. The rest of the cast includes, America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Ncuti Gatwa, Alexandra Shipp, Ariana Greenblatt, Sharon Rooney, Ana Cruz Kayne, Emma Mackay and Hari Nef.

Barbie is playing in theatres near you.
