Big Mistakes: Dan Levy’s Chaotic Netflix Crime Comedy Drops Its First Trailer

A brand new Netflix series is about to bring chaos, crime, and extremely questionable life choices to streaming. The first trailer for Big Mistakes, a dark comedy created by Dan Levy and Rachel Sennott, recently arrived online, giving audiences a glimpse into a wildly dysfunctional family story mixed with organized crime. If the trailer is anything to go by, this show proves one thing very clearly. Bad decisions make great television.

A Dark Comedy About Family and Crime

Big Mistakes is an upcoming American crime comedy series produced for Netflix. The show blends family drama, awkward humour, and crime caper storytelling.  The story centers on two siblings who accidentally get dragged into the world of organized crime. Their problem is simple. They are wildly unqualified for it.

In the series, Nicky and Morgan find themselves entangled with gangsters after a misguided theft connected to their family situation spirals out of control. What begins as a desperate attempt to help their dying grandmother soon turns into a chaotic criminal mess. Instead of slick criminals or masterminds, the story focuses on people who are deeply incompetent at being criminals. Which, honestly, might make them more entertaining to watch.

Dan Levy Returns to Television

For fans of Schitt’s Creek, this series marks a major return to television for Dan Levy. Levy not only stars in the show but also serves as the writer, showrunner, and executive producer. He plays Nicky, a closeted pastor who becomes entangled in criminal activity alongside his sister Morgan.

The project is also significant because it is one of Levy’s first major series under his creative partnership deal with Netflix. After the global success of Schitt’s Creek, expectations for his next television project are naturally high. And judging by the trailer, Levy is leaning fully into messy characters, chaotic family dynamics, and humor that thrives on awkward situations.

Cast and Characters

The series features a strong ensemble cast alongside Levy. Main cast members include

  • Taylor Ortega as Morgan, Nicky’s sister
  • Laurie Metcalf as Linda, their ambitious mother
  • Abby Quinn as Natalie
  • Jack Innanen as Max
  • Boran Kuzum as Yusuf

Additional recurring cast members include Elizabeth Perkins, Jacob Gutierrez, Joe Barbara, Josh Fadem, and Mark Ivanir.  Together, the characters form a messy family whose lives spiral after one catastrophic mistake. Actually, several catastrophic mistakes.

What the Trailer Reveals

The newly released trailer highlights the show’s chaotic tone. Viewers see the siblings being pulled into criminal activity by gangsters who clearly regret their hiring choices. The trailer suggests a mix of tense mob situations and absurd humor, with the central duo constantly making things worse.

It also emphasizes the family dynamics at the center of the story, particularly their complicated relationship with their politically ambitious mother. Big Mistakes will premiere on Netflix on April 9, 2026. The first season will consist of eight episodes, each running roughly half an hour.
