In a world overrun by Japanese anime, the reception for animated stuff in general is also increasing. Thanks to that we have had some incredible American animated series as well including Prime Video’s Invincible, Netflix’ Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Legend of Korra. One such top notch animated series which is also my personal favourite is Castlevania. Although the show is based on a Japanese video game, it is has been produced in America and originally performed in English. Castlevania debuted in 2017 and gained immense popularity and a huge fan base by presenting a dark fantasy tale full of complex characters, engaging subplots, and a lot of bloodshed. The show ended its 4 season run in 2021 and now 2 years later, we are getting a spin-off sequel called Castlevania: Nocturne which is all set to debut next month!
Castlevania: Nocturne Release Date and Trailer
Castlevania: Nocturne is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on September 28, 2023. A trailer for Castlevania: Nocturne was released on July 27, 2023 and it featured a rendition of “Lamento della Ninfa” by Italian composer Claudio Monteverdi. You can check out the trailer for the series attached above or click on this link.
Castlevania: Nocturne Plot – What Is It About?
The premise or plot synopsis for Castlevania: Nocturne reads – “France, 1792 – the height of the French Revolution. In a remote part of western France, the counter-revolutionary aristocracy has forged an alliance with a terrifying Vampire Messiah, who promises to ‘eat the sun’ and unleash an army of vampires and night creatures to crush the revolution and enslave humanity. Annette, a sorceress from the Caribbean, seeks out Richter Belmont, last descendant of the long-fabled family of vampire hunters, to lead the resistance.” So, just like Castlevania, this spin-off will also feature loads of vampires, monsters, hunters, and at the same time also tell us a bit more about the French Revolution era of history.
Who Is Richter Belmont?
As you can see in the trailer, Richter Belmont is going to be the protagonist of the series but who is he? Well, Richter Belmont is a direct descendant of Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades from Castlevania. He is a renowned vampire hunter, the main protagonist of the game Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and a frequent supporting character in later games of the series. As per the game, every generation of the Belmont Clan has produced tougher, more dedicated vampire hunters — yet Richter stands as one of the most powerful in the family.
Other Confirmed Characters and Cast in Castlevania: Nocturne
Aside from Edward Bluemel as Richter Belmont, Castelvania: Nocturne will feature, Pixie Davies as Maria Renard, a young revolutionary during the French Revolution, Thuso Mbedu as Annette, a young sorceress and ex-slave from the Caribbean, Nastassja Kinski as Tera, Sydney James Harcourt as Edouard, Zahn McClarnon as Olrox, Franka Potente as Erzsebet Báthory, a vampire queen, and Sophie Skelton as Julia Belmont, Richter’s mother along with Richard Dormer, Aaron Neil, and Elarica Johnson in undisclosed roles.
Will Dracula Be In Castlevania: Nocturne?
While Dracula was killed off in Castlevania Season 2, he was brought back at the end of Season 4. Being an immortal entity, he is bound be around and might even play an important part in the spin-off. Now in the games, Richter Belmont went toe to toe with Dracula and ended up defeating him and saving the day using the legendary sacred whip of the Belmonts – The Morning Star. So, we are hopeful that we might see Dracula in Castlevania: Nocturne.
Will Alucard Be in Castlevania: Nocturne?
Just like Dracula, Alucard is also pretty much immortal and was a part of the game featuring Richter Belmont. Again, although the trailers didn’t reveal anything, we are hopeful we’ll see Alucard in the series as well. He may not play as prominent a role as in Castlevania but we belive he might be there.
How Many Episodes Will Be There In Season 1?
As per reports, Castlevania: Nocture season 1 will consist of 8 episodes, all of whom will debut together on September 28th only on Netflix!
