Creator of Community Dan Harmon is worried if the movie might happen or not after all. After years of campaigning with #SixSeasonsandaMovie, in September 2022 it was eventually announced that the Community movie was in development. The Peacock film features the original stars Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong. However, the ongoing Hollywood strikes have caused production setbacks and put those projects into major uncertainties.
The recent Community movie updates reveal that Dan Harmon is concerned it might not happen whatsoever. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Community creator admitted that once the SAG-AFTRA strike is over, Harmon is worried the cast might not be able to get back together. “By the time we can recoordinate, what are the odds that everyone’s schedule is going to once again align?”
Why The Community Movie Might Not Happen?
Before the SAG-AFTRA strike, Harmon says the plan was to shoot the film in Atlanta. It was moved from LA to accommodate Glover’s return. Glover’s name was missing from the September 2022 announcement, though there have been several updates hinting at his comeback. He has several other commitments including Star Wars Lando movie and Prime Video’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith series.
With no conclusive end to the SAG-AFTRA strike in sight, there is no certainty that the cast of Community will be able to reunite for the film. Once the strike ends, there will be a scramble in the industry to secure top talent. This includes Glover, but also McHale (Fox’s Animal Control), and hosts reality competition series like Crime Scene Kitchen and House of Villains. Considering the situation of the SAG-AFTRA strike, Harmon’s comment casts some major doubt on the fate of the Community movie.
