Death Note Netflix Stranger Things Creators Are Bringing A Live-Action Adaptation

Matt and Ross Duffer recently revealed Upside Down Pictures as the name of their new production company. The announcement of the new venture has also been accompanied by the disclosure of its upcoming project slate, including an all-new live-action TV series based on the widely popular Japanese manga and anime series Death Note. The pair have recently released season 4 of Stranger Things to Netflix, which is currently ranked as the all-time most popular English TV series on the streaming service.

Death Note Live Action Adaptation, All You Need To Know

Death Note originally started as a manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata, running from 2003 to 2006. The story follows Light Yagami, a high school student who discovers a black book called the Death Note and gains the ability to kill anybody by knowing their name and face. Light starts using the book to fulfil his agenda, and Ryuk, a Shinigami who dropped the Death Note on Earth, finally pays him a visit. The enigmatic detective known as L is called in to find out who the killer is as criminals worldwide start mysteriously dropping dead.

Tetsuro Araki directed the anime adaptation of the series, which debuted in 2006 and ran for 37 episodes through 2007. He later worked on several Attack on Titan projects and recently directed the Netflix anime film Bubble.

Death Note is one of the world’s most well-known and highly regarded series, both in its written and animated versions. The anime series has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has won multiple awards over the years.

The launch of Upside Down Pictures included not just the revelation of the Death Note project but also the announcement of numerous other significant facets of the business and its forthcoming slate. Hilary Leavitt (Orphan Black, Ozark) has officially been hired to run the company.

A Stranger Things spin-off series based on an idea developed by The Duffer Brothers and produced by Upside Down and 21 Laps is among the other projects from the new company that have been revealed so far. Stephen Daldry (The Crown, Billy Elliot, The Reader), Sonia Friedman, and Netflix are creating a brand-new stage play set in the Stranger Things universe and chronicling its mythology.

There are no specifics yet regarding the start of production or the anticipated release date for the new live-action adaptation of Death Note.

  1. please, please, please stick to the show as much as you can, the fans don’t want a “fresh take” or a “new spin” on the show, we want “the show- but with real people”.
change as few details as you possibly can, and it’ll be well received. (especially compared to the current death note live action mistake)
