Extraction 2, the sequel to the high-octane action movie from 2020, with Chris Hemsworth in the lead, has a release date now that production on it was completed back in April of this year. The upcoming movie is expected to air on Netflix sometime in 2023.
Based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks, Extraction starred Hemsworth as Tyler Rake, a former member of the Australian special forces who has become a hired gun assigned the task of rescuing the kidnapped son of a crime lord. Rake was able to save the child, but the film’s ending appeared to show his demise. However, a trailer for the sequel debuted at TUDUM last year (check it out below), making it clear that Rake would live to fight another day.
Extraction 2: The Sequel Will Arrive Sometime Next Year
In late June this year, the film’s writer, Joe Russo, discussed how the sequel differs from the first during an interview with Collider’s Steven Weintraub. He stated that the film “has a different colour schematic. It’s set in a different part of the world. It has a different pace, a different tone than the first one. And that, to us, is an interesting way to approach serialising a story, is that it’s more surprising and unexpected, and you’re not going to get the exact same movie that you got the last time out.”
Rudhraksh Jaiswal, Randeep Hooda, Golshifteh Farahani, Pankaj Tripathi, and David Harbour were among the actors who appeared in the first movie, in addition to Hemsworth. However, as of right now, we just know that Hemsworth will be back for the sequel.
While the specifics of the plot for Extraction 2 are still being kept under wraps, we know that several familiar faces are involved in its production. Sam Hargrave, who made his feature film debut with the first movie, will once more step into the directorial role, while Joe Russo will once more write the script. Through their AGBO production company, the Russo Brothers will be producing the movie. Along with acting in the film, Hemsworth will also serve as a producer.
The film’s official description reads: “In 2020, the world met a new hero: Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth), a fearless black-market mercenary who embarks on the deadliest mission of his career. But what seems lost… can still be extracted. Directed by Sam Hargrave, this action-packed, edge-of-your-seat franchise is produced by Joe and Anthony Russo, the visionary directors of Avengers: Endgame.”
Netflix is all set to release Extraction 2 in 2023.
