Michael Mann is back after seven years with a biopic titled Ferrari, about automobile entrepreneur Enzo Ferrari. Ferrari is this 2023’s one of the most anticipated films, especially because Mann has been trying to get this movie produced since the year 2000. In a recent interview, he revealed that he has wanted to make the movie since he was a 24-year-old film student. The focus of this film will be the Mille Miglia race and Ferrari’s involvement in it. Ferrari shows the final run of this 1,000-mile open-road race across Italy in 1957. It could no longer continue after Alfonso de Portago blew a tire and crashed into the crowd. The accident killed nine people, including Edmund Nelson, five children, and Portago himself.
Trailer and Plot of Ferrari
The official plot synopsis for Ferrari from NEON reads:
It is the summer of 1957. Behind the spectacle of Formula 1, ex-racer Enzo Ferrari is in crisis. Bankruptcy threatens the factory he and his wife, Laura built from nothing ten years earlier. Their volatile marriage has been battered by the loss of their son, Dino a year earlier. Ferrari struggles to acknowledge his son Piero with Lina Lardi. Meanwhile, his drivers’ passion to win pushes them to the edge as they launch into the treacherous 1,000-mile race across Italy, the Mille Miglia.
In an interview with Variety, Mann stated that Ferrari will be far more bloodier than the viewers might expect. Daniel Pemberton, who composed the movie’s score, gave details on what we can expect from the film, during an interview with Collider. “I think the thing that’s interesting about the film is it really gets you into the madness of what motor racing is. How motor racing started and why motor racing exists is crazy. Around that period, your friends are dying all the time. The film deals with a lot of grief as much as it does racing. The film is a complex drama with some really awesome racing sequences.”
