Some movies are made purely for entertainment purposes and are full of jaw-dropping and cinematic moments. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) is one of those movies which is low on substance but overcompensates in its story telling technique. 8 years ago, director George Miller brought us a high-octane thrill ride where just like its main character Max, audience too was never at rest and was left wanting for more. Well, now he has returned with a prequel spin-off of the film featuring the main character from Mad Max: Fury Road, i.e., Furiosa. Since a year, we were getting tons of BTS images but today with the release of the official trailer, we have received an in-depth look at this spectacle of a film.
Which Character Is Chris Hemsworth Playing in Furiosa?
In this epic trailer, fans were taken aback not just by the mesmerizing visuals but also by how unrecognizable Chris Hemsworth looks in the film. Not only does he look stunning but his accent is unrecognizable as well. In fact, many fans have pointed out how he sounds a lot like Tom Hardy, especially when he says, “Do you have it in you to make it epic?” We don’t know about Furiosa herself, but George Miller sure has already made this film look like an epic. Anyways, now fans want to know everything they can about Chris Hemsworth’s character and we have some great information regarding that.
Chris Hemsworth stars in Furiosa as its main antagonist Dementus and is a powerful warlord in this dystopian world of Mad Max. Dementus is the the leader of the powerful Biker Horde in the Wasteland and will kidnap the future Imperator Furiosa from the Green Place. Dementus’ forces will arrive at the Citadel and come into conflict with another warlord, Immortan Joe. Of course, Joe himself is pretty young during the events of the film.
Dementus is a character who was first mentioned in the Mad Max video game as Dr. Dementus. It was known that he was defeated by Scabrous Scrotus in the Wasteland Wars. In an interview with Variety, Chris Hemsworth said Dementus, “He’s a complicated individual. He’s a very violent, insane, brutal person who is born in the Wasteland, which is the world the ‘Mad Max’ saga takes place. He’s a product of his environment, he has been birthed into a space where it’s kill or be killed. He’s learned to rule with an iron fist. There’s a charisma to him and he’s a very manipulative charisma.”
This surely looks like a transformative role in his career and as Hemsworth has stated earlier, he now wants to be seen as a serious actor. Although, he has done some respectable roles in the past like James Hunt in Rush (2013) or Curt Vaughan in The Cabin in the Woods (2011), this role might elevate his status as a serious actor.
