God of War: Ragnarok

The overwhelmingly good reviews of the 2018 God of War reboot rejuvenated the craze of the game and despite being a hefty and daunting adventure, it left the fans wanting more. Sony was quick to capitalize on this and they announced a follow-up to the reboot – God of War: Ragnarok. Although, ever since this announcement it has been a slow burn for fans as there seemed to be no significant updates on the game’s release. However, the fury rising inside fans was sublimated after Play Station finally announced the release date of the game and along with it, a new trailer last month. Now as the game has released, we’re getting a lot of leaks but today it is the time to compile all of them. Today is the time to talk about the recap and summary of God of War: Ragnarok.

God of War: Ragnarok Story Summary!

So, according to a Reddit user who has completed the entire game, he has given us the entire story recap of God of War: Ragnarok. If you’re someone who’d like to experience this first hand then kindly don’t read any further as this is going to reveal pretty much every bid reveal. Again, you’ve been warned. If you’re still here then I assume that is by choice.

The OPENING has Thor and Odin visit Kratos’s house from 2018, attempting to make a truce with Kratos, saying they’ll leave each other alone and the aesir will keep Freya (who is still pissed about everything and now trying to kill Kratos) off of Kratos’s back. Kratos refuses, kickstarting a big fight between him and Thor (Kratos gets thrown through his roof again). During the fight, a meta moment happens where Thor kills Kratos and defibrillates him back out of the loading screen. Fight ends after Kratos lets some of his old rage come out and Thor is finally impressed enough to leave!

DOGS AND ATREUS WHO IS ALSO A DOG SOMETIMES – Kratos and Atreus have a dogsled with some wolves now for whatever reason. one of the wolves is Fenrir (he dies RIP). Atreus turns into animals like a bear and a wolf now and at one point Kratos fights Atreus in bear mode (he can’t control himself when he goes beast mode)

FREYA (God of War: Ragnarok) – At some point there’s a Freya boss fight where she has her Valkyrie wings back and goes under the name Vanadis, but the fight ends when she cant bring herself to kill Kratos. She instead asks for help and the team sets out to break the curse binding her to midgard. At some point they also rescue her brother Freyr from vanaheim with help from people I assume are other vanir gods. Kratos also opens up to Freya about his past. Kratos and Freya also fight nidhogg at some point but I think that’s later on in the game!

TYR – Tyr is actually Odin the whole time, and he kills Brok (really sad. Brok saw through his bs before anyone else). Odin takes some sort of mask from the group that he clearly needs for some reason. Odin takes Atreus away (maybe Atreus goes with him willingly, not sure) from Kratos at some point and Atreus trains under Heimdall.

Kratos gets a dope spear from a mermaid lady that can leave behind fragments of itself in enemies that can then be detonated by Kratos from afar! You get to play as Atreus for a while

HEIMDALL (God of War: Ragnarok) – Heimdall is kind of an asshole (reminds me of hermes) to Atreus and Thor’s daughter Thrud, who starts working with Atreus at some point. you fight Heimdall as Kratos later, and he rides atop a ram-tiger thing for the first phase. In the second phase, the puzzle is trying to figure out how to hit Heimdall as he can easily dodge attacks due to his special eyesight (the solution involves using Kratos’s spear in a clever way). at the end of the second phase Kratos severs Heimdall’s arm and attempts to spare him, but Heimdall magics a new arm onto himself and continues fighting. At the end of the third phase Kratos lets his rage out due to Heimdall being an asshole, brutalizing him to Mimir’s horror.

ANGRBODA – There’s a portion of the game where you’re just hanging out with Angrboda as Atreus. Angrboda has some sort of fox companion that she uses to race with atreus in wolf form at some point. Speaking of wolf form, that’s Atreus’s version of spartan rage while you play as him. you fight angrboda’s giant grandma as Atreus around this time as well.

Kratos and Atreus fight a massive wolf in helheim at some point, putting fenrir’s soul into its body afterwards! There’s a sidequest about freeing a massive jellyfish from a prison. There’s a dream sequence where we see Faye in person for the first time and hang out with her for a while

RAGNAROK – Ragnarok does happen, with Kratos, Atreus, Thrud, Freya, Freyr, big snake (cant spell) all being present. Surtr is stabbed by Kratos’s chaos blades in order to start ragnarok. The last Thor fight occurs during ragnarok, with kratos sparing him only for Odin to appear and kill Thor in front of his daughter. The last battle against Odin occurs shortly after. Kratos, Atreus, and Freya all fight together in the final battle (Mimir’s there too providing moral support I guess). Odin dies in Atreus’s arms, which I believe is part of the mural at the end of 2018 (though we all thought it was Kratos of course).

ENDING – Both Atreus and Kratos live, with Atreus setting out on his own journey at the end of the game. There’s a touching goodbye between kratos and atreus with a rendition of the main theme playing that damn near makes you tear up.
