God of War Ragnarok New Half-Sequel Leaks - All We Know So Far

It is possible that you may have encountered the rumors of new God of War game in the past few days. Well, after it seems like, after being put down by the developers a few months ago, God of War: Ragnarok expansion is happening after all. In the snap of our fingers, God of War: Ragnarok touched all our lives and left a huge hole in our hearts, much like Sindri himself. And now that the short lived Norse saga has been concluded, fans have been left asking what is next for the manliest God who ever walked Greece and Midgard. Today we have some incredible new information for the fans about the future of the franchise.

Is God of War: Ragnarok Getting A New Half Sequel or Expansion?

God of War Ragnarok DLC - The Progress, Story, Release Date for the Expansion Angraboda Serpent Fenrir

In this new age of gaming, it takes a lot of time and effort to stitch every single piece and make a smooth functioning game. This extends to not just game sequels but also their DLCs and expansions. For example, most recently Horizon Forbidden West’s expansion turned out to be even heavier than the main game and hence was a PS5 exclusive. These expansions are generally so vast that these days studios tend to make a standalone game out of them, just like Spider-Man: Miles Morales. And while fans consider them to be glorified DLC’s this seems to be the future of gaming. And as it happens, this seems to be the future of God of War as well.

God of War franchise is no stranger to standalone spin-offs as it has had its fair share of them including Chains of Olympus, Ghost of Sparta, and Ascension. As per new reports, we might soon be getting a half-sequel to God of War: Ragnarok as well. If its true, this will mark the first spin-off in the Norse saga of God of War franchise. While we earlier got reports that Santa Monica might be working on a DLC, a half-sequel seems like a much more plausible scenario. First of all, it will allow gamers to smoothly transition from PS4 to PS5, unlike what happened with Horizon fans. Secondly, it will also act as a satisfying conclusion to the Norse saga which left a certain questions unanswered.

One thing is quite clear though, which is that, Santa Monica is definitely working on more God of War content. It has been hinted numerous times in the past and recently it was also leaked to be over 60% complete. What would be it be about? While Kratos’ part in the main story seems to be over, Atreus still has a lot to do. Taking Atreus as the main character will give the creators of the game a huge opportunity to present a fresh perspective and story for the expansion. The entire Atreus and the giants arc needs a bit of closure and considering how they let us play as Atreus, an Atreus based seems like a great idea. Aside from Atreus’ mission to find more giants, the way Sindri’s story ended left a huge and painful hole in our hearts, so the DLC/half-sequel might touch upon that as well and give us some closure. Another thing which needs to be explored is the return of Tyr and the rebuilding of Asgard.

You might remember, a few months ago, Tyr’s voice actor While discussing Tyr’s role in Ragnarok, Ben Prendergast stated that Tyr wasn’t done yet. He said, “all I’ll say is this – it isn’t the last you’ve seen of Tyr.” Prendergast went on to say that he “knows a little, but doesn’t know much,” regarding the future of the God of War series at large. So, in case there is an Atreus half-sequel, you can be damn well sure we’ll see Tyr in that considering how he helped the giants and all. There have also been a few job listings posted by Santa Monica and its associate studios regarding the future of God of War series. From all this, we can derive that Snitch’s comments may not be far from truth and we might actually be getting an expansion for GOW: Ragnarok in 2024.

God of War: Ragnarok is available to play on Play Station 5 and Play Station 4.
