The first cast members of the MonsterVerse series on Apple TV+ and Legendary Television have been revealed. The Hollywood Reporter reports that the cast will include Anna Sawai, Ren Watabe, Kiersey Clemons, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski. The drama, set after the conflict between Godzilla and the Titans that decimated San Francisco in the 2014 film Godzilla, follows a family as they learn about their hidden ties to Monarch, the government agency in charge of studying the Titans.
‘Pachinko’ Star Among Five Joining Apple’s Monsterverse Series
Cate, a teacher who survived the attack known as G-Day, will be played by Sawai (Pachinko). She goes to Japan to resolve some family problems, but there she learns a secret that will completely change her seemingly uncomplicated life. Watabe will portray Kentaro, “an intelligent, creative and curious young man who wants to learn more about his revered yet mysterious father.”
Meanwhile, May, an American with a “roguish exterior,” will be played by Clemons (Zack Snyder’s Justice League). Tim, an office worker who is yearning to embark on an adventure, will be portrayed by Tippett (Mare of Easttown). Lastly, Laswoski (Versailles) stars as Duvall, a talented agent with high confidence in her skills.
Chris Black (Star Trek: Enterprise) and Matt Fraction (Hawkeye) co-created the series, with Black also being the showrunner. The first few episodes will be directed by WandaVision’s Matt Shakman. All three will serve as executive producers, along with Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures and Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita of Toho Co. Ltd.
Godzilla And The Titans Live-Action Series In Development
The untitled project is the newest addition to Legendary’s MonsterVerse, which started with Godzilla. Following this were the films Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), and Godzilla vs. Kong (2021). The franchise has made close to $2 billion overall. A fifth movie is now in production, which is reportedly going to be about King Kong’s son. On March 15, 2024, it will be released in theatres and will star Dan Stevens from Legion.
Legendary is also creating Skull Island, an anime series for Netflix set in the MonsterVerse. It will follow a stranded crew as they attempt to flee the titular island and avoid the various creatures that live there. It doesn’t yet have an official release date, just like its sister series for Apple TV+.
