The untitled Godzilla vs Kong sequel, the latest installment in Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros’ MonsterVerse, has officially started production, according to a news report from 7NEWS Brisbane in Australia. A beach in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, that had been decorated to resemble Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was where the cast and crew were spotted filming.
Godzilla vs Kong Sequel Will Be The Fifth Installment In The MonsterVerse

The first footage from the set of the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong sequel was featured in the news report, which showed a group of extras reacting to something in the ocean. After giving the sky a long look, they were instructed to flee the shore while screaming. Although it is currently uncertain how this footage will be used in the movie, fans anticipate that once the film’s special effects are complete, the crowd of extras will react to the arrival of Godzilla, Kong, or another monster.
Even while Legendary didn’t officially declare that the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel has started shooting, the video report is a clear indication. “It’s secret, top secret, something to do with a gorilla and a dinosaur,” claimed one of the extras interviewed by 7NEWS Brisbane. Therefore, it seems safe to assume it is for the future sequel.
There are few details available for the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel, which is filming under the working title Origins. The film’s lead character will be played by Dan Stevens, while Adam Wingard will return to helm the movie after directing Godzilla vs. Kong in 2021. Other rumours suggest that the sequel will centre on Kong’s son rather than another battle between the two titular monsters.
In addition to the anticipated sequel, two other shows set in the MonsterVerse are in development. First up is the Netflix animated series Skull Island, which is expected to add to the legend surrounding everyone’s favourite giant gorilla. The other is an untitled live-action series for Apple TV+ that stars Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell and is set in the wake of 2014’s Godzilla. No release date has been set for either project.
Godzilla Vs. Kong 2 is slated to hit theatres on March 15, 2024.
