Warner Bros. have made it a habit of owning every major franchise there exists. Well, Legendary Pictures, an extension of Warner Bros. that we most likely see during the opening of a DC film or a Nolan film or at least we used to see in a Nolan film. Not anymore as Nolan has now partnered up with Universal for his next film Oppenheimer. Regardless, Legendary Pictures produces the Monsterverse movies with monsters like Godzilla, King Kong, etc. A whole universe has been formed with 2014’s Godzilla, 2017’s Kong: The Skull Island, 2019’s Godzilla: King of Monsters and then finally the big face off in 2021’s Godzilla vs Kong. Now, we have an update that tells us more about the upcoming sequel Godzilla x Kong.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Trailer Revealed!
Legendary Pictures just has revealed the official title for the upcoming sequel to Godzilla vs Kong that came out in 2021. The sequel is now officially titled Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. The title reveal came with a small teaser where at the end of the teaser we got one quick shot of the feared blue eyed villain in his rawest avatar. The teaser shows us an ape titan resting on a menacing throne, the surroundings are all filled with bones and detritus. At the brink of this haunted graveyard lie two massive skulls that are clearly resemble the heads of Godzilla and Kong.
The obvious takeaway is to assume that the ape sitting on the throne is Kong, but the creature’s appearance seems quite a bit skinnier than the titular protagonist, and there is a rather villainous feel to him. The sequel is looking like an amazing action film which will offer us action set pieces that are not previously seen and visuals that will last a lifetime. The Monsterverse universe has been churning out good films but they’re bogged down by their unnecessary human characters.
Adam Wingard is returning to helm the sequel and as we all know Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will release on 15th March 2024. We have not gotten any trailers for the film. The reason for it is simple, the sequel is still in production and given that the release is very far along we will get the first trailer somewhere around October or November 2023. The only official trailer for the film is the title reveal which you can watch below:
The official synopsis of the sequel reads as, The new instalment in the Monsterverse puts the mighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a collosal deadly threat hidden within our world that threatens the existence of their species and our very own, as well as diving deep into the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond.
Godzilla vs. Kong 2 will hit theatres near you on March 15, 2024.
