Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Looper helmer- Rian Johnson is the mastermind behind the whodunnit thriller called Knives Out which released in 2019. The film centered around the Drysdale family as their Patriarch (Christopher Plummer) is murdered and Mr. Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is anonymously hired to solve the case. The film takes us through an enormous ride of ups and downs. The film had great set-ups and pay offs as almost everything from the very start of the film was somehow connected to the murder. Nothing in the film is wasted. That’s a sign of a good screenplay. It was very economical and with the comic treatment of the film, it was a clear winner. It reminded viewers what old Hollywood films used to be like. With great sets, multiple characters and so on.

However along with that it also brought a fresh take on the murder mystery genre. It was great combination of nostalgia innovation. Especially for a genre that isn’t exactly thriving in this era. The film was critically successful as well as won the audiences. So, you’d think that the studio which made the first film will greenlit a sequel but that was not the case. Lionsgate didn’t. T’was Netflix that bought the rights and greenlit two Knives Out sequels. One of them is coming to the streaming giant this year. That being said, until now the details regarding the sequel has been sparse however, last month Netflix revealed new images from the sequel and along with that its release date. However, today’s news is even better as we’ve gotten our first teaser of the film. Yes, this time its not a teaser for a teaser.

Knives Out 2 Teaser Trailer Confirms Ethan Hawke’s Character’s Death?

The teaser trailer for Glass Onion is what a trailer is supposed to be like. We saw another film this year that has understood the assignment of what teasers are supposed to be and done it to perfection, that film being Halloween Ends. Despite the release date of the film being so close, they’re not releasing any new promotional material simply 1.30 Minutes Trailer. Glass Onion follows a similar a route. In the entire teaser, we understand nothing about the plot. In fact, there is barely any dialogue.

Which is good and of what is spoken, nothing seems to be spoilery. The only thing we understand is that like any murder mystery, Glass Onion will have a set of different individuals coming together for a celebration/event/occasion that results in a murder of one of them and now it is up to the only detective on board to find the killer. While we get a lot of shots of Daniel Craig doubting people, no distinct names are taken. We see some action montages that would be in the climax of the film but other than that the teaser maintains the lid of the plot.

However, the teaser does spoil one thing- the character who is going to be murdered. Ever since Murder on the Orient Express’ trailer there has been a trend in whodunits to hide even the victim of the murder for us to be truly surprised. Who would’ve thought the most famous person in the film (Johnny Depp) will die in the first 10 minutes. Knives Out didn’t follow it and it seems like neither Glass Onion. The first batch of photos that were revealed to us a few weeks back, distinctly had one character missing from a huge moment.

The still I’m referring to is the one where all characters are sitting with Daniel Craig on the dinning table. The moment seems very important for the film and despite that there is one character missing from the still- Ethan Hawke. Following the trend, the first teaser of the sequel does further confirm that Glass Onion’s victim would be Ethan Hawke. He is literally not in a single shot of the teaser and there is one simple explanation for it, he’s dead.

Glass Onion may look like an extremely expensive film but the sequel is being made in the same budget like the original- $40 Million. Considering the hype and the success of the original, my bet is that Glass Onion would highly successful. The sequel just like the original has an amazing cast. With Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc at the center of affairs, the supporting cast of the film includes Edward Norton, Madelyn Cline, Kathryn Hahn, Dave Bautista, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Kate Hudson, Janelle Monáe, and Ethan Hawke.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will premier on Netflix this year, on 23rd December 2022 after completing its run in select theatres.
