Warner Bros. Discovery made an announcement a few months back that sent shockwaves throughout the internet. The announcement was that New Line Entertainment and Middle Earth Enterprises are collaborating together to work on multiple Lord of the Rings feature films that would be set in Tolkien’s fantasy world. This announcement came after New Line Entertainment acquired Middle Earth Enterprises. This is a multi-year agreement between the two production houses which are under Warner Bros. Discovery. These films, which will be based on both The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, will be new projects in addition to the anime film The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, which New Line is currently in production on as well. Speaking of The War of the Rohirrim, the first reactions of the anime project are out and the critics seem happy about it.
Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim First Reactions Are Positive!
The Kenji Kamiyama directorial was shown to guests at the Annecy Film Festival and if you’re wondering how the first ever anime project of the LOTR franchise has turned out then keep reading as the first reactions from the film festival are here.
Ryan Grobins, a filmmaker with Nezui, had to say the following: “Just finished the work in progress talk for the new #LotR film #WaroftheRohirrim, and I have to say that the marriage between Lord of the Rings and #anime never looked so good! The world and characters looked very authentic. I can’t wait to see this in theaters next year.”
Rafael Motamayor, a freelance journalist who frequently covers animation, was incredibly positive in his reaction. “LordOfTheRings War of the Rohirrim is already shooting to the top of my most anticipated movies of 2024. The (very short and unfinished) footage shown at #Annecy2023 looks fantastic. This is 100% in line with the original trilogy while also very much an anime. Can’t wait,”
Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is slated to release on 12th April 2024. All eight episodes of Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Season One are currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
