Some movies are made purely for entertainment purposes and are full of jaw-dropping and cinematic moments. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) is one of those movies which is a bit low on substance but overcompensates in its story telling technique. Nearly 7 years ago, director George Miller brought us a high-octane thrill ride where just like its main character Max, audience too was never at rest and was left wanting for more. Well, now he has returned with a prequel spin-off of the film featuring the main character (arguably) from the film, i.e., Furiosa. But we have an exciting new update for you about the Fury Road sequel Mad Max: The Wasteland.
George Miller To Direct Mad Max: The Wasteland After Furiosa
Rumor has it that George Miller will be directing a sequel, titled “Mad Max: The Wasteland,” right after the release of ‘Furiosa,’ which is currently under production. The update comes from a popular leak website worldofreel, which has been right numerous times before. The untitled Mad Max sequel has been in development for a long time but as of now the focus of Miller and his team is on Furiosa. Furiosa is supposed to release on 24th May 2024, after being pushed back numerous times. This means we won’t be seeing Mad Max: The Wasteland for a good 3-4 years.
in an interview with Variety, George Miller stated, “We do have another story, but it’s still not fully evolved. We’ll see further down the chain.” So, it seems like Mad Max sequel will surely take shape in the near future but considering Miller’s age (77), fans are a bit worried about its fate. By the time Furiosa comes out he’ll be nearly 80 and things could get a bit tricky. However, seeing the evolution of cinema technology and the way some modern day high budget films hardly take 6 months to make, we shouldn’t be very worried.
Although Mad Max: Fury Road ended on a satisfying note, this saga is very close to Miller’s heart and it would be really awesome if he gets to tell one final story about Max. As of now, there is no word on whether Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron will reprise their roles in Mad Max: The Wasteland. Also, there is still some doubt whether the film would be called Mad Max: The Wasteland at all, however, what we do know is that the sequel surely is still alive.
Furiosa is currently scheduled to release on May 24, 2024.
