As a cinephile and fellow filmmaker, I wanted to watch OMG 2 (review here). First I went to watch OMG 2 simply because of the controversy around the sequel. 27 cuts and an ‘A’ rating? My god, what have the makers made? Despite this the film managed to open on a decent note and has sustained itself against the juggernauts like Gadar 2 and Jailer. In this blockbuster season, only OMG 2 tasted both critical and financial success. Ever since the film’s positive word of mouth began to spread, the makers of the film started to demand that the film’s original cut be made available for the audience. Director Amit Rai also demanded to drop the ‘A’ certificate for the film as it is intended for teenagers. However, the censor board has turned a deaf ear to all the pleas of the makers. Although, it seems like the the makers have found an elegant solution to bring their original vision to the audience.
OMG 2: Original Cut Will Soon Be Available!
In a recent interview, OMG 2 director Amit Rai mentioned that the film’s original cut will be released whenever the film debuts on an OTT platform, most likely Jio Cinema. The filmmaker said, “We have decided that we will show the original film (on streaming), a film that the censor never wanted people to see, but… the public has seen the film and given their verdict. If the Censor Board doesn’t understand it, what do we say?”
In the original version we can expect changes like:
- Akshay Kumar’s character will be Lord Shiva and not one of his messengers.
- The frontal nudity scene of Naga Sadhus will be added.
- Several scenes of the movie had voiceovers which will likely get removed.
- Important dialogues with references to Shivling, Shri Bhagavad Gita, Upanishad, Atharvaved, Draupadi, Pandav, Krishna, Gopiyan and Raasleela will remain intact as the makers had intended.
These are just some of the changes we can expect, there would be many more smaller changes that I’ve not listed above. I will certainly watch OMG 2’s original cut when it releases on Jio Cinema potentially as soon as next month.
